PAYE- how does it work?

You'd be better off contacting the tax office listed on your payslip, as they should be able to make the necessary changes immediately.studentphil wrote: »I think I need to check what my status is with payroll to see what I am down as.0 -

If you think that your going to break your tax limit before April, then you do, as tax is payable over the year, not when you finally break your tax-free threshold.0 -
Phil, the worst that can happen is that when your employer sends in the P35 (P60 to you) at the end of the year saying what you've earned and what they've deducted the HMRC will look at it and see that you have underpaid tax (if you have). They will then change your tax code for 2008/09 to collect this underpaid tax through the next tax year.
Now, start thinking of the next thing for you to worry about.0 -

Doesn't matter. You've committed fraud by not informing the tax office of your change in circumstances. Hide, Phil, hide!0 -

I don't have to go into hiding because I have checked and the reason I don't have to pay tax is because at the moment I won't be earning over my personal allowance before Apr, thus on the tax tables I am not coming up as oweing tax.:beer:0 -
i been working at my new job since september and have been paying 22% emergency tax. I spoke to tax office and im obviously due rebate but wont get it till April. I have filled out a p46 when started and then i think it was a p91 about a month ago.
