The OP posted their original question in April and haven’t logged back on here since May.
I presume that means their trip has been and gone.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I didn't clock the timescale, my bad.
This sad story indicates travel insurance issues when hospitalised in the USA - and this lady was covered.

I realise this post began nearly one year ago..however..

I find myself in precisely this situation. Looking for annual travel insurance for uk and europe for pre-existing conditions ( previously happily covered) but now with the addition of being stuck on a NHS waiting list for some reduced hearing in one ear. It is not severe and is not related to my pre-existing conditions.

I have already been on the list over 6mths and just get updates every so often asking if i still want to wait or am I better!?

So looking at no cover at all until seen by NHS. Im gob smacked by this and that so many folk must be in a similar position. The sticking point with the last place I tried seemed to be that they wanted to know if it was for a procedure or not and unless the answer is a definitive 'NO' everything gets excluded. How do I know- I havent seen anyone yet!?

I'm wondering if anyone has come across any answers tot his since OP in April 24. tis

I would say that you are awaiting a diagnosis not a procedure, at this stage.

If the companies that offer cover for pre-existing conditions really can't help, your other option is to cancel your place on the waiting list and rebook after taking out the insurance. You may even be lucky and find that your cancellation hasn't been processed before you rebook, maybe cancel through your GP and they won't have processed anything before you withdraw the cancellation  ;)

Awaiting a diagnosis can be just as problematic for insurance purposes. Insurance companies like to know what they are working with.

If you are saying take out insurance then go on a waiting list and not tell the insurance company this is terrible advice.

To the O.P.......If you are struggling to get travel insurance go where GHIC covers you.  Book near your holiday time or flight only with an exchangeable ticket e.g. Easy Jet so that cancelling wont be such an issue...... Before you do book however decide if the things that arent covered by GHIC like repatriation and personal possesions are important enough for you not to travel.

You are required to notify the insurance company of any changes  so would  still have to tell them.

Of you didn’t and had to make a claim for anything medical they would require your medical notes from your GP . That would show the referral and yiur claim would be denied.

I was saying you could ask your GP to cancel the referral, then take out insurance.

And when the GP is asked about health records, that pain and GP visit will still be on there.

That wouldn't help! Cancellation of the appointment doesn't take away the reason for it.
