LANDLORD DEDUCTIONMS AT CHECK OUT

It is kind of similar in the sense of the silliness of the situation & the fact you'll end up giving the good folks at the TDS an entertaining day in the office. You want to charge for something you were going to throw away - or is there a trophy room of ex rental toilet seats ? £35 quid is a lot for a loo seat but considerably more reasonable the the £75 our ex landlord wanted out of us & unsurprisingly didn't get !cashless_wonder said:I had a landlord try to charge me for a replaced toilet seat, when we moved in the seat had a crack clear through it so we pointed it out & it was noted on the inventory. A week of pinched behinds later we replaced it. On move out they tried to charge us for not returning the thunderbox with the orginal move in seat !DFW NERD# 1175Proud Member of Sealed Pot Challenge #5 ~ 1479 cashless_wonder~*DEBT FREE & LOVING IT*~

If you always replace toilet seats at start of new tenancy then you've suffered no loss, so no valid claim (basic UK law I suspect). Likewise if it was completely smashed.
That it cost £35 or £5 is no guarantee of quality or robustness or not......
Tenant could point out that evidence that you have kindly provided on open forum should this ever get to scheme dispute process . (Can't be that many arguments about both small chip & £35 seat, new at start).
Best wishes to all.

Please tell me this is a joke? If a chipped bog seat is the biggest issue you've done very well. Put the rent up and re market.I also fit a new seat, but cheap plastic - about £12 from a trade place. Soft close of course
Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.4 -
Is this the only damage above fair wear and tear after a 2 year tenancy? If so, and I was going to replace the toilet seat anyway (not something I usually do as a landlord), I would let it go.PugMum1985 said:

If you're replacing it anyway why are you charging the tenant?PugMum1985 said:

But no picture? Is it bad enough that you will have to replace it, even if you can't deduct the £35?PugMum1985 said:

If the property was otherwise left in good condition, it seems petty and churlish to make a fuss over a tiny chip in a lavatory seat. Just be thankful you haven't been left with months of unpaid rent and thousands of pounds of damages you can't recover from someone who has done a midnight flit.2
