The circumstances of the past year are not going to be repeated in the next, where tracker has been reflecting a present day wholesale price that has fallen a long way below where it was when the SVT was set.

That maybe so, but (unless Russia/Ukraine or Israel/Iran mess it up) it does look like they have now stabilised.  If so, prices should be fairly static.

I suspect that when Octopus set up this tariff, the intention was not to create something that was pretty much guaranteed to significantly undercut the SVT the whole time.

Octopus set up Tracker tariff before energy cap, prior to energy cap SVR was regarded as rip off tariff, I fail to understand any basis for you suspecting what you have said.

I dont think they anticipated the gap being so big including through the winter hence the algorithm change at start of year.

Damn, Glad I moved to Agile, but who knows if thats going to get its own changes as well these coming months.

We review the Tracker formula and standing charge every three months, each time the energy price cap updates, to make sure Tracker prices fairly reflect things like taxes and levies, network maintenance and meter rental, as well as energy regulation.

According to reddit users, SC has been bumped on Agile (new signups), but no news on the formula.  I should be ok for a year at least as Octopus have gone back to 12 month contracts.

This is a new policy and as I've recently been bounced around various Octopus staff while trying (and failing) to solve a problem, I discovered that not one single member of staff, including seniors, knew anything about it.

I haven't had much reason to contact Octopus specifically about my Tracker tariff for several years so it's been really disturbing (and frustrating) to discover that even after all these years and lots of new customers joining up, most staff still don't understand Tracker outside of a superficial paragraph and a couple of T&Cs links...  🤦🏻‍♀️
