You won't notice any difference whatsoever between 150 and 500Mbps unless downloading or uploading(my upload is 28Mbps) large files so it's up to you whether the £4 (£48 total) is worth it or not. I'm always amused by people bragging about their Gigabit Virgin connections when they only use a fraction of that and pay double.

    £48?

Sky is showing the 500 as £33 (it was £32 when I last checked - maybe I need to clear my cookies).

Total difference for the 12 month contract (if it is 12 months, I need to check mine now because I'm not sure if it isn't 18 months). £60 if it's £33pcm now.

The quote I saw is 18 months.
Yes, sorry for the confusion. Sky are almost always 18 months as is mine, no idea why I thought it was 12 :(

One thing with some suppliers - the IP is static. I want the option to be able to reset my router and a new IP is applied. This is purely because I've found it can play a part with successful email sending. If the IP gets onto a blacklist for no fault of my own, it can have a negative impact on email delivery.
You are actually more likely to get an IP address that is on the blacklist with a dynamic IP than you are fixed where you are the one on control of any abuse. It is more likely the ISP / mail provider is blacklisted not your IP.

Plusnet is dynamic unless you pay a one off fee for a fixed address, Sky is only dynamic I believe. As mentioned Plusnet on FTTP do not offer a voice service so if you need that then you will need to contract to your own VOIP contract. Sky do offer a voice service.

I'm currently paying £40 a month for TalkTalk, around 41 Mbps (Yes I know... rip-off), and I can move to Sky at 500 Mbps for £32.18 month contract.

Now I was originally with Sky, and moved to TT due to the line disconnecting too often.

I'm reaching out to those of you who have used Sky's Ultrafast 500 Mbps and wondered what your thoughts are?

Paying £8 less for a much quicker line looks a good deal and it's not the typical 24 month contract.
I currently pay £26 for TalkTalk 65 which is giving me a speed of 72 Mbps

Did you haggle? As my upgrade options give nothing close to that.

Yeah I've used both dynamic and static and certainly found dynamic to be better, as I don't have to whitelist my IP on anything - could be a problem if it kept changing, which I've read from people.

Voice service? Surely any Internet connection can allow me to make calls on Skype. Although I don't use anything such as Zoom.

The comments around telephony is if you needed a ‘regular’  ISP supplied phone service, one that mimics a traditional landline service, obviously third party VoIP providers can provide telephony, and apps can do similar things , the point about Plusnet is they no longer supply a phone service, so if you require one ( a conventional ‘landline’ type service, delivered by plugging into the ISP supplied router ) then Plusnet don’t offer that anymore

Ah, no, I wouldn't need that.
So it's currently looking like a choice between Plusnet and Sky.

Plusnet appears to be a 24 month contract - Sky 18 months.
    Plusnet is £33.99
    Sky is  £33.
Sky offer a faster minimum speed guarantee

I'm guessing both Sky and Plusnet speeds would be the same, regardless of which I go for? (both the 500 Mbps deal).

Down to personal choice then really.

Yep , the minimum speed guarantees are a little pointless , both use Openreach so the ‘connection’ is identical ( and as it’s FTTP it’s at whatever speed you purchase ) the way the regulator/advertising requires average speeds to be used, and as they are  nationwide , it means at a local level they are a bit pointless , but as stated it’s a personal choice …I doubt there will be any real noticeable difference.
  • The only question I have, when I see mention of superfast/ultrafast broadband is, who actually needs these kinds of speeds?

I would think the vast majority would be easily served with a couple of hundred mbps.
