in Heat pumps
Presently investigating the possibility of a Heat Pump, one thing springs to mind, I presume someone would need to remove my gas smart meter, not sure if it can be taken out FOC or is there a charge for removing? Don't want to get lumbered with a standing charge if I decide to go down the route of getting a Heat pump installed. Any advice appreciated

We stopped using our gas for heating, hot water and cooking soon after we moved in and were informed if we didn't have the meter removed we would still be required to pay the standing charge going forward as they would still need meter readings from it from time to time to make sure we were not using any gas although we had the gas supply capped off. This was 15 years ago so things may have changed a bit by now I guess. Long story short we installed a multi fuel stove for heating and hot water but only used logs for this. Plus, installed a wood burning stove/oven cooker in our big kitchen to heat that room and cook our meals. But, knew we were never going to use gas ever. It was a lot of hard work with the continuous supply of logs needed but we managed to run the whole house with just them. But later decided to go for Biomass instead as could buy the pellets and our work load was cut down considerably but of course we have to buy pellets now. But, have never had to pay the gas standing charge of course since it was removed. I believe at the time, must have been in 2009 it cost £75.00 for the meter supply to be capped and the meter removed. One company capped the gas supply and another removed the meter.
But, as said it could have changed since we had ours removed back in 2009 especially the cost of doing this. But, wanted to share our experience with you.
Hope that helps.
