Install heat pump / removal of gas meter

Hi
New to this forum
I am currently renovating our house and as part of this we are installing a heat pump (to take advantage of the government credit!)
My builder has says we do not need our gas meter anymore so I was planning to call our provider (EDF) to remove it. I will then save on the standing charge for gas
We have had the gas turned off since the Summer. Do you think we can ask for a rebate? Has anyone else has come across this before?

Welcome to the forum.Unfortunately you're unlikely to get a rebate because the supply was still being made available.0

As I recall, someone posted here that they had found a supplier who would not make a standing charge in the event that no gas was used (this being month-to-month). But that supplier would be very much the exception rather than the rule, you will normally have to pay the standing charge and you may also have to pay to get your gas meter removed.Reed0

Indeed £80 to remove (so payback after around 9 months), and not much luck in getting any money back for standing charge (despite not using the supply!)
Thanks for responses0 -
