Just wanted to add, I have a drum of Birds (BB May 2019) and it's still absolutely fine.

Turmeric would make it taste overwhelmingly turmeric-y and its distinctive earthy/bitter taste is not something which would improve custard (YMMV). Maybe a drop of yellow food colouring?
The amount needed to colour would not affect the taste. Turmeric is used as a dye often in food colouring as it is natural and not made out of petroleum products.

My main use for Custard Powder is for making biscuits. This recipe for Whittingham Buttons was adapted from a NT recipe, and apart from being very somple, makes excellent biscuits.

    175g Butter
    75g Icing Sugar
    175g Plain Flour
    50g Custard Powder

Cream butter and icing sugar, add rest of ingredients and mix to form a firm dough.
Place rolled spoonfuls of dough the size of a walnut onto a baking sheet, and flatten slightly using the tines of a fork.
Bake for 15 or 16 minutes at 160C in a fan oven until golden.
Cool and enjoy, whilst asking your friends to guess the "secret" ingredient.

Or a strand of saffron? It wouldn't taste much like custard, though!
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.
  • We tried Waitrose own brand during lockdown and it was quite horrible. We wait for Ambrosia to go on deal. It’s still very expensive but if you are only buying it occasionally I suppose it is worth it.
    Ambrosia!
    It's made in Devon!

@DevonRiz123 it only comes in tins though, which is not what I’m looking for.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
