First off, sounds like the charging circuit (alternator) isn't doing its job properly, hence the charging warning light.


Secondly, it's a 2005 Megane, so electrical problems are rife. Get it to a proper garage (not a Halfords, Kwik-!!!!, Nationwide autocentre, or a main dealer, but a decent independent) and get the problem diagnosed properly, but my money is on alternator + general Renault shitness.

No there is no need to buy a specific dealers ODB equipment to go with your Renault.


Cheaper ODB 2 scanners can communicate with the ECU efficiently enough to point you in the right direction of a fault.


dealer specific codes will be displayed as such and will provide you with the code alongside, a simple google search can help you translate the code number for the fault.
