...there is not much else that a dumb smart meter will give me
What it will give you is access to the best deals and cheapest tariffs.... needing to switch to a smart meter for a fix has been  a thing for at least 4 years.

Not meeting their targets actually costs them money in penalties, so makes sense to me why they wouldn't help you save money if you're actively costing them.

Forget the phone, send an email and/or letter headed COMPLAINT and go to the ombudsman upon receipt of a deadlock letter or after eight weeks if they don't send one. May be better to make a separate complaint for each topic to keep things simple.

Well, a few minutes ago I received this...
Please be informed that I have applied the Essentials 2Yr April 26 tariff in your account. As your current tariff is valid till 30 April 2024, the new tariff will be applicable from 1 May 2024.
However, I would also like to inform you the possibility that there may be a request to change the current meter to smart meter which is best suitable with the fixed tariff. In case any appointment or request is reused, please let us know so we can do what best action can be taken so you are not forced to install smart meter..
Meanwhile, you do not need to change the meter to smart meter until it is mandatory.

This is going to get interesting. Stay tuned.
