I have posted a competition in the Standard online competitions section, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/competitions-time, it cost £2 to enter, the reason I posted it there is because there is no post, text or phone entry route you have to enter online only, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6537620/e-15-07-11-20am-win-up-to-20-000-2-online-entry-only-on-air-daily#latest

Have a posted it in the wrong section? If so, perhaps the Post, phone & text competitions section, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/post-phone-text-comps, could be renamed Post, phone, text & pay to enter competitions

The wording of "standard competitions" begins with "FREE competitions" (MSE capitals) so maybe FREE is the overriding factor, as to the post etc it begins "Competitions with no free online entry" and perhaps the rest of the description should be simply be dropped.

Historically, no you haven't posted it in the wrong place.
All on-line competitions were always posted on the Competitions time board even if it entailed a cost of up to £2.10.

However, after the re-organisation, the new strap line applied to the Standard online competitions board does imply that this is specifically for Free competitions and the one for the Post, phone and text competitions does suggest (but not specifically say) that the pay to enter should be posted there.
As the new strap lines have been taken as suggested by @One-Eye, perhaps we need to hear what they intended.
I feel that it would be better for all comps entailing any cost to be posted with the Post, phone and text one but that the strap line should be made more specific perhaps by adding pay to enter.

Where would be the best place to post purchase necessary competitions? I have always posted them in the Standard competitions section, such as the Daily Mail competitions, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6537822/e-07-07-win-wimbledon-singles-finals-tickets-daily-mail-purchase-or-subscription#latest, perhaps there should be a new section for purchase necessary competitons so long as the cost to purchase the item/ product does not go over a certain limit.

The current headings for the sub-forums are:

    Standard online competitions

FREE competitions you enter online, by email or through social media.

    Post, phone & text competitions

Competitions with no free online entry. NEVER post a pay-to-enter competition costing more than £2.10.

The wording was chosen carefully, but with constraints such as keeping them as close to the previous headings as possible so as not to confuse, to keep the £2.10 rule prominent, and the overall constraint of limited space.

The intention with the primary split is that the first section is FREE and the second section has NO FREE ONLINE ENTRY, thus I would say that competitions like the This Morning Coin Drop should be in the second section as it has no free online entry. Competitions that have both free online entry and paid for entry should be in the first section.

Maybe the headings could be modified again to better stress the "FREE" in the first section and to better stress "pay-to-enter" in the second, but they are working well - the number of comps posted in the "wrong" sub-forum since the change has shrunk to almost zero. As far as I am aware, the coin drop comp is the first one that has caused confusion.

As I said previously "I feel that it would be better for all comps entailing any cost to be posted with the Post, phone and text one but that the strap line should be made more specific perhaps by adding pay to enter.".
If a purchase is required, that is a cost that needs to be incurred in order to enter the competition and it should be posted on the Post etc board. The purchase limit is £2.10 just the same as the pay to enter limit and for the same reason.
The original limit was £1.50 which was related to the cost of making a text entry. (See Martin Lewis' post here:  https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/24817/please-read-posts-by-the-mse-team-and-bgs-merged)

It was increased to £2.10 after a poll of members as posted here:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4796020/should-the-spend-limit-on-comps-go-up

As that poll was over 10 years ago, perhaps it is time the limit was raised?
I have no personal opinion on this as I don't enter any comps that require any sort of payment.
