    No matter how much it goes up it will still never be enough and rather than cutting back on wastage they cut back on services.
    So true -- infact, no doubt they will spend more money employing/promoting new manager (s) whose sole job it is will be to find savings.
    And so the wheels of bureaucracy turn
    My council employed a PR consultant to announce they were making staff redundant to save money.

    That makes sense, no money for essential services but £600k for another statue that nobody asked for is always within the available budget.

    Employing consultants at inflated prices smells like secret handshakes with friends in high places and money changing hands in the process.

    I got all my council tax paid when I had a total knee replacement.  They normally don’t do this until you reach retirement age, I was 58.  I then claimed ESA, this was before UC existed, and they gave people just enough to live on, a single person couldn’t afford to eat, pay utilities and council tax.  The DWP told me I could stay on ESA until I retired (nice of them :)) and mid Devon Council happily paid all the council tax.
