am i paying too much for gas and electricity ?
I have just received a bill from e.on energy and in it they say that they estimate i will pay £3000 for electricity and £1100 for gas this year. I live in a 2bed house and dont think i use a lot of energy . I'm also out at work during the daytime around 3 days a week. I pay my bills via cash when the arrive .
My questions are :i) Is this projected amount reasonable ii) i thought i read that the energy price cap is £1600 if this is true then why is my projected energy bill almost three times this amount ?

If you pay your bills when they arrive then you already know what you pay each year.
Price cap is for average usage not a max you will pay.0 -
Ignore the £s, how many kWh does it estimate you will use and how many kWh have you actually used in the past 12 months ?Paying cash on receipt of bill is the most expensive way of buying energy, variable monthly DD is the same price as fixed DD but paying for your actual use each month. Do you provide accurate monthly meter readings or have fully functioning smart meters or are the bills estimated ?The price cap relates to Mr&Mrs Average using 11500 kWh of gas and 2700 kWh of electric, use more you pay more, use less you pay less, it is not all you can eat for £1600.0

Without meaning to be smart, the answer to both questions is 'who knows'. You haven't told us anything about your energy usage.
You really need to educate yourself about your bills and how your costs are calculated. Your bills will show what your kWh consumption is for each month, presuming they are based on actual readings, not estimates.
If you could post your readings, or kWh usage, on bills a year apart and say what tariff you're on, people here will work out your projected future costs. It's simple maths really.1 -
i havent been with e.on for a year but they estimate that i will use 9830kwh for electricity and 13970 kwh for gas

Have you only recently moved into this house? If not, using the information in your bills from your previous supplier(s), assuming it's based on actual readings, not estimates, can you post your actual usage for the previous 12 months?

i dont have readings for a year as ive only been here much less than a year

Can you give us what readings you do have - the ones you gave when you moved in and what they are today.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
That electricity estimate is huge assuming you have gas central heating. What do you have that uses electricity?0

Do the bills you have been receiveing so far match your energy usage?Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0

Why not build a simple spreadsheet as I have done. I am able to see at a glance where I stand.
