  • Hi all,

Sorry i’ve been MIA with my forum I’ve been super busy with illnesses and work etc.

My gas engineer cancelled on me last minute last week and i’ve not been able to call anyone else out so far.

Just looked at my boiler and it has the two images. Anybody know what they mean please?!

This is the boiler when it’s off.

    Thank you all!

That means the boiler is (or can) serve both heating (radiator) and hot water (tap). The 0.7bar is the pressure, which is quite low. It should be nearer 1.5.

If you press the mode button, it'll probably scroll through the hot water and radiator temperatures.

  • UPDATE: Once again, I’m so appreciative and grateful for everyone who has read my post and given thorough advice about my situation. You’ve all been so helpful, is an understatement!

For anyone interested in an update, I finally managed to get someone out to have a look this morning and they have reported the following:-

    1.       The radiators that were barely getting warm because the valve (I can’t remember the term – but on the other side of the TRV with the plastic cap) was half closed. They’ve now opened it fully so hopefully the radiators will start getting hot! If this problem persists, will need to change the radiators and valves completely as they may be faulty.

    2.       Advised that the thermostat being on 30 meant that the boiler was never turning off but advised likelihood of it ever actually getting to 30 was nil due to size and area of house. Though, because I changed it very quickly from 30 to 25 then 18, my boiler and system shut down. They’ve amended this and kept the thermostat at 18 which I won’t touch anymore!

    3.       Thermostat is located by a bedroom in 1st floor of our house to be near the controls. This was done by previous owners – but the system isn’t effective. Currently the ground floor has boiler, 1st floor has thermostat, main pipes and timer controls and 2nd floor has 300L hot water tank. Advised this needs to be looked at as likely not running efficiently. I was looking into creating a smart home anyway (open to suggestions of good smart home providers please).

    4.       300L hot water tank located on 2nd floor was set at 40 degrees Celsius. Advised this is way too low which meant it was always running to make sure enough hot water was in the system. Now set to 55 degrees and again, I won’t touch ever again.

    5.       The 2nd floor has something switched on inside radiator which meant water was flowing too quickly through them and then not reaching ground and 3rd floor. He will return after Easter to balance out the system but in the meantime, he has turned this slightly so water flows to other radiators too. Hopefully this will amend this problem?

    6.       He bled the radiators – typical that there was air in them today – despite us bleeding them constantly the past week.

    7.       Pressure was too low so he restored this to 1.6 bar when cold.

That's everything that I can remember which he did. Apologies as I don’t know any of the correct terminology that he used. But hopefully you’ll get the gist 😊 Regardless, we’ll see how his amendments get on in the next week or so and then he’ll be back after Easter to fix any further issues.
