Looking at my smart meter data, we're still using 20-30kWh/day of gas for heating. Most of that is to take the overnight chill off in the morning.
I suspect we'll be leaving it on until the end of the month, at least.

  • Well this has definitely helped my home discussion with the family we have agreed a 2 degree set back on the ASHP weather compensation curve and a review next weekend as to the next step.

If that's not money saving I don't know what is 🤣🤣

Historically I get twitchy if heating is on past 1st April but then again that's just what my parents did and whatever the weather you dealt with it as it didn't go back on til October.

I can't think of Switching Storage Heaters off.

We are definitely getting close! We have had a couple of no heating days recently (including today!)
I had several no heating days in Dec and Feb - in between high heating cost days.  So it's not a strong metric for coming weeks.

The last of my 3 manual NSH went from min to off 3 days ago - but suspect 1 or 2 at least will be needed again.

But it's certainly been a mild winter in parts of UK - but not always a pleasant one - very wet - not so nice for cycling and walking.

    Mar isnt always so mild.

The mini beast from east was this time 6 years ago - Mar 16-18, 2018 about 2 weeks after the Beast from east / storm Emma just 2-3 weeks earlier.  Epic snow levels in parts by uk standards.

And 3 years ago snow hit large parts of Eng even to low levels in midlands and south in mid Apr - which interrupted walking plans.

And hard frosts not uncommon in May in many areas -  something to be wary of if a keen gardener.

Here in Devon it's been alot warmer than usual, only had the heating on a few times for a hour in the morning. My last bill was 47% less than last year.

It has been a pretty mild winter where we are in the Midlands but it has been wet. Our gas usage is down on the previous winter by about a third.

Our heating isn't coming on much at the moment. Will give it a little while longer before we turn it off for the summer though.

My heating is always on the lowest comfortable setting I can get away with so there really isn't any scope to turn it down. It never goes 'off' but I set it to away mode whenever we go away (or out for long enough that the heating might come on for when we wouldn't benefit from the heat).

Southwest England on the coast so the rain and cloud has kept it cold, the temps are way below what they would normally be.
Using the 'booster' for an hour in the morning and this bungalow should keep the warmth for a while. Same in the evening.
Using fleece clothing and fleece on the sofa, keeping feet off the floor helps.

But I do have fan heaters in the bathrooms for a quick zap for showers and dressing.

The sun heats the house but without that (most of this winter) it's been chilly. Happily now it's getting it's unique sola heat :)

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

  • So for those with a heat pump this is what I have arranged as a test for this week with the family (we started yesterday)

We have underfloor heating with our ASHP downstairs so it's like one big storage heater. So we heat that up for a few hours (5-8 hours depending on the temp overnight) on cheap Agile rates and see how we go.

My central heating is set for a constant 14 degrees and has only been on a few mornings this winter. I have passive heating from a south facing conservatory and a small logburner I light after dark but this week I haven't lit it. So yeah, it's much warmer now. I'm not a person that feels the cold much though, being outdoors most of the day
