Metro Bank is the experiment over?

I think the point was that most of them would just bank online, and the ones that wanted the hassle of messing around going to a branch would be retired. I can imagine anyone under 80 ever going to a branch.General_Grant said:
So you think the majority of 9.2 million people aged 16 to 64 who are not working and not seeking work are retired?Hoenir said:
Majority of these people will be retired. The target market for Metro possibly. At a time when other banks are reducing the scale of their branch operations.subjecttocontract said:
But according to today's papers there are 9 million adults who don't work and who aren't seeking employment. So, opening 9.30 to 17.00 Mon to Fri suits them fine.boingy said:A branch that is only open 9:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday is no use at all for the vast majority of working people. Better to close on one of the weekdays and open on Saturdays. And if you think you don't need a Metro branch you obviously haven't tried to open an ISA with them, because that's the only way you can open those accounts - an utterly insane business decision. No wonder they are struggling.1 -
How many people advocating for Metro to open on Sindays have visited a Metro branch on a Sunday?5

Well, as said before further up the thread, you have to go in branch to open some of their ISAs. I went in a couple of months ago when they had their leading fixed ISA rate. They wouldn't serve me as they were busy. They said make an appointment. You can only make an appointment on the day for that day. Went in the next day - no appointments left. Told me you need to be here at 8am to make appointment. But I'm at work! And you cannot call in to make an appointment.Rob5342 said:
How many have visited any branch at all in the last ten years? It's hard to imagine why anyone would have a need to visit a branch.sheramber said:How many people advocating for Metro to open on Sindays have visited a Metro branch on a Sunday?
Absolutely mad. You'd think they were TOO successful as a bank. ???2 -
That's bizarre, why would they want to put people off opening accounts with them?0

No-one's really sure. Maybe they are trying to justify their branches by having branch-exclusive accounts. But their branch coverage is not that great. A round trip to my nearest branch would be three hours, two gallons of petrol and some extortionate city centre parking and you're not guaranteed an appointment!Rob5342 said:That's bizarre, why would they want to put people off opening accounts with them?0 -
I could be wrong but there may be an element of cheap advertising, i.e. make a song and dance about an impressive headline interest rate but minimise the cost of actually delivering it....Rob5342 said:That's bizarre, why would they want to put people off opening accounts with them?0 -
OMG it's a bank not a doctorsVXman said:

Yes - much more important than a doctors.

I wouldn't recommend Metro but my NLA 1 year fixed rate £80K cash ISA, that pays 5.71% is 1st Class and I'm looking forward to collecting £4500+ in interest payments later in the year. 😁😁
The 30 minute visit to open it seems to have been a very worthwhile exercise.1
