I think that can be very seasonal connected. Early dark nights and miserable weather and the gap inbetween any 'holiday activities' you may participate in eg Halloween/Bonfire Night and Christmas.

Give yourself something to look forward. Depending on available finances, arrange a babysitter and go for a meal with your wife or drinks at the pub. Or book a panto to watch with the kids or all go to a Christmas light switch on.

But for us we have just gone thru a 3 week period where my 100yo Nan was hospitalised (still in whilst needs are assessed), so was my Dad taken to hospital by ambulance  but as an out-patient and discharged same day (follow up care needed at GPs) and seperately both me and my husband have been involved in car crashes - both cases, other party to blame. So things might not be ideal they are better than the alternative would have been.
