Money Moral Dilemma: Should I complain about a prize that's worth less than was advertised?

I would contact them. Stay polite and make it clear that you think it may have been an unintentional mistake. But if they advertised the prize as being of a certain value, then that is what you should get. If the more expensive BBQ is not available anymore, they should make up the difference in value. Ditto with the food. Good luck.0

I was lucky enough to win a gas barbecue worth £400, along with some food to go with it, in an online competition. Yet I was sent a lesser model, worth £300, and only about half the food. Should I contact the website to complain, or should I be grateful for what I've got?
Polite enquiry to them querying the discrepancy. If possible include the original competition ad and T&Cs. If unsatisfactory or no response, you can take it further and contact the Advertising Standards Authority (asa.org.uk).0 -
A polite enquiry re the prize received not bent the one you expected, as per the comp details, is worth your time but I really feel it would not get the response you were hoping for if you 'complained'.

Like others have said, I don't think you need to complain as such, just a polite email asking if you have been sent the runners up prize as what you have received is not what was advertised. Especially as, although it's "free" because you won it, I am assuming you had to add some sort of personal data to be able to enter, so not as free as you might first think x

Without knowing the exact wording of the competition, is it possible that the 'total' prize value was £400, 'including' food?0

Raise it with them, I only had problems with one particular company who wouldn't provide the prize, on facebook of course, I ended up threatening court action out of principle before I grudgingly got something worth a bit less than the prize offered. There are loads of fake competitions out there and these companies need holding to account.0
