Tomtwins said:Thanks everyone. I saw the chairs in the Bespoke kitchen show room. The ‘owner’ told us that a company called Coach House provided them, which supplies John Lewis. He sent me an email with a link to the Coach House website with prices for the chairs in the email.Just to note, these chairs were not on this website. I ordered these via email correspondence last April 2023.
The ‘owner’ mislead me to believe these chairs would be ‘custom made’ from a specialised furniture designer that also supplies John Lewis.
All chairs are custom made, in a way.
Same company may well supply J Lewis.Life in the slow lane0 -
@TomtwinsAre the chairs upholstered? If so do they still have the fire safety labels? If they are upholstered but the fire labels have been cut out you'd be entitled to reject the chairs for a refund.
The retailer may say the buyer must have removed them0 -

As a kid we had secondary cushions on bar stools whose labels stuck out the back. In principle you could curl them under but then when you wanted to turn them over, maybe to hide something you'd dropped on it, then it was sticking up and unlikely to stay curled under anymore... they all got cut off. The cushions were "sealed" so not like cushion covers where it's inside the zip.0 -
Coach House are not a JL supplier. Not sure what difference it makes though. The OP purchased chairs at a price they were happy with and have received the exact chairs they ordered. You would be in for a shock if you knew what the cost price of furniture was to a retailer vs the purchase price for the customer.0

Yes, the fire safely labels have been cut out, which I find odd. The small remains of the labels have been left under all the chairs.
I only bought the chairs from this company, nothing else.I had been looking around for quite a while.
I like buying local and supporting local businesses, so I don’t mind paying a little bit extra, but it looks like the ‘owner’ just directly ordered from Dunelm and charged me £400 extra for the privilege. He told my family member last week, that he bought them from Dunelm and she should order them direct from them. Why did he not tell me the same!!

Is there a fabric component to the seat? If there is and there are no fire labels then it's an issue, if they are all wood then they dont need one. However with the duration lapsed it could be argued maybe you had removed them (as my mother did on ours)0 -

Yes, they have fabric seats and metal legs. So to remove the ‘fire labels’, only suggests he bought them direct from Dunelm and wanted to hide this fact.
The point was we asked for good quality kitchen chairs, hence going to this Bespoke Kitchen company, which we believed we were paying for.
its like being sold artisan biscuits that are specially made for you, but being given cheap biscuits, lets say from Aldi for example, taking the wrapping off, and still saying they are artisan but costing at the higher price. The fact was he was misleading about the products he sold, but it looks like we have no consumer rights. So thanks to everyone for their comments.0
