Cheery's path to fulfilment - finishing the DIY, looking after myself, appreciating the garden 🌻

Ha, I was at least still dressed! 😂 I haven't been outside tonight since it's been dark but the aurora app is showing Amber alert now (rather than red) so i might just stay in the warm...5

Also saw the northern lights last night about midnight from my back door. Theres a lot of light pollution where I am but could still see them with the naked eye though only got the purple and green colours with my phone camera - lovely. Have seen them once before up in the north of Scotland. Felt quite emotional seeing them.6

I'm getting a red alert but have failed to see anything yet. I've seen a small amount of green in Stockholm in the past, but nothing spectacular ... which apparently there was here last night. But I was asleep - totally unaware of the chance of seeing it as I'd been snowed under with work. Hoping I can stay awake and see something tonight.6

I've got a red alert but we've been out and it's completely overcast here. After last night's show I don't feel inclined to spend another 2 hours out in the dark so we're back in!

I missed the light show as I was in the land of nod.Have seen them in Norway but just the green colour they seem to get there apparently because of the composition of the atmosphere there. Apparently at the same time the show in the Peak District was fantastic which would have been much closer to home but I guess I wasn't likely to have been wandering around the Peak District after dark on the off chance so I count myself lucky. The photos that I have seen from a couple of nights ago are fantastic. Sorry to have missed it this time though I hadn’t picked up on the high chance of activity at all6

The photos do show it better than in real life, although it was pretty special to see - I'm so pleased I got to see it. I'm often wandering round the peak district at night (doing exciting things like emptying the bins out putting the compost out) but I do have the aurora watch app which sends me notifications too, and the local Facebook weather page made announcements too - I certainly would have missed it if I hadn't known to look.
The sun is shining again today, but it's due to rain this afternoon, so I need to get up and get on. Here's a list (although I may decide to swap things round depending on the weather)

I thought you had given up on veggie growing this year? Or is the idea of wasting the friend donated spuds just too much? 😉
Hope you get some downtime in the midst of all that. 😊

Just did some strimming. Trying to have an attitude change this year and I think it's working! Once a week, no more than an hour. Each time I do the front and by the washing line, and then each time I pick a different area to tackle for the rest of the hour. Last week it was by the chicken run, compost bin and out to the bench by the willow dome. Today was the veg patch and by the greenhouse 😊 Next week I'll go past the edible windbreak area and a bit of the sides of the drive, and after that probably round the back of the house. That way there's always a mosaic of grass lengths and habitats at any one time. All that doesn't need to be kept as short as by the house, but equally I don't want to leave all of it for the whole summer. There are a few large spaces I do leave all summer though, and just knock back in the autumn (or every other autumn...).
I do go round things though 😂 There's quite a lot of blue speedwell growing in the bits I cut last week and nearby - I just raised the strimmer and kocked the top of the grass above them. And some groups of ox eye daisies in the veg patch - I LOVE ox eye daisies so have just gone round them all, regardless of whether they're in the middle of a path 😂😂
Not planting veg, but I did want to sow some flowers for cutting in the veg beds, and don't want them to become completely overgrown again so I have to start from scratch next year.
Anyway, enough of that for now, time for lunch!10 -
