We print less than 50 sheets a month and bought a cheap (less than £50) HP printer and pay £4.49 per month for printing 50 sheets with their HP Instant Ink deal.  Any 'unused' sheets get carried forward. Works out well for us.
That does sound like a good deal! Will investigate if we end up not being able to fix this one properly, thank you 😊
We used to do that HP plan for some years but changed about 18 months ago and bought an Epsom printer that had an ECO tank from the Q** shopping channel. It came with spare ink and we are still on the first fill. It might be worth looking into if you can get a deal. My OH prints photos and we do print for family members too because they were having to use the local library and were shocked at the cost when they  needed to print some official documents when they moved house.

We've got the Epsom printer with the Eco tank as well.  We've had it about 3 years and still on the first tank so still have the spare one to use (if I can remember where I put it!).  Has certainly been economical to use.

We've got the Epsom ET-2250 printer with Eco tank.  We've found it very economical and it was definitely a good buy for us.

Your mums bus journey reminds me of the Timothy Spall film “the last bus “ where he travels the length of the country on his free bus pass. Got mine last year and haven’t even used it yet but a project for the  future perhaps
Ah yes, someone else mentioned that recently! Must watch it!
