    Hi all,

I’ve almost finished my first book of this year - The Trial by Rob Rinder - which I’m enjoying. Not sure what’s next but I have a couple of classics in my To Be Read pile which I might have a stab at.

Determined to read down my current stash and use the library more this year.

    What’s everyone else reading?

Currently on The Book Thief.  No opinion of it yet.  Dropped off the copy of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine at Tescos where I'd found it on their charity shelf.  Have decided that when I drop books off wherever I'll do a line or two inside as a review or to say something about the book.  Not sure what people think of that.

I've just finished Butter by asako Yuzuki.  Although it's based on a true story I found it very odd and so did all of the book group I go to.  3/10

I'm currently reading The Hallmarked Man which is the latest in the Strike series by Robert Galbraith (J K Rowling).  So far it's brilliant as always.

Just picked up a Camilla Lackberg book called The Hidden Child from the charity stand in the hospital whilst visiting, I do like her, she writes  good scandi crime books.  The cover looked familiar but I've realised it's an early book in the series and I've read it 🙄 at least the hospital benefit today and Petworth bookshop will benefit in a couple of weeks.

I may start on a Louise Penny as I picked up The Grey Wolf in the hospice shop recently

Would you recommend starting at the beginning of the Strike series? I’m not sure how many of them there are now but very tempted to give one a go as the reviews seem so positive.

A long while back I read The Casual Vacancy, which I believe was her first non Harry Potter related book, and didn’t enjoy it massively. Think I have sub consciously avoided anything else new since then.

Starting at the beginning of the Strike series means that you will better appreciate the developing relationship between the main characters.  Mind you, personally I’d recommend skipping the Ink Black Heart.

I am reading The Black Wolf (library copy) @Brambling I love this series, I have bought several and would like this to be one of the series that I keep for a while, together with the Strike and the LJ Ross Northumberland ones Need to do an audit to see what is missing.
@bouicca21 the Ink Black Heart was not liked by many of my friends too. I found it interesting as I am wrong side of 75 with none of the family younger ones geographically close, so although it was a slog I did get quite a bit from it.
Next on the pile is Ian Rankin Midnight & Blue and Bob Mortimer The Hotel Avocado.

Hope you all can get a bit of quiet reading time in today as well as suitable amounts of Tea, Coffee, Wine or whatever........very grey and damp here.

Are you me lol.  This is exactly how I felt about the non-harry potter books.  I also read The Casual Vacancy and in all honesty I couldn't even finish it as I didn't like it at all.  And that's not me, I usually make myself finsh a book.  I've avoided all of her other books since. But have been tempted by all the positive reviews also.

Just finished the Ibis trilogy by Amitav Ghosh. All about the Opium wars. Was quite hard going at first until I got into the style of writing. Not sure if I would recommend , but ultimately I sort of got to enjoy it IYKWIM
