I used to go to a book club when I lived in Kent and we actually had quite a lot of laughing about some of the books the library suggested and we read.
We never ever used the questions at the end of the books however just went around the table and said what we thought of it and marked it out of ten I remember reading 'The Kite Runner' and everyone agreed it was really a great book and not one we would have thought of picking up to read normally.
We then went on to read A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author. I believe The Kite Runner was turned into a series on TV but apparently its nowhere near as good as the book
I always prefer reading the book to the film although John Le Carre's 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' is my favourite film and I must have watched it at least 4-5 times and still like it.

The film with Gary Oldman or the series with Alec Guinness? Our life is full of the quotes from the latter. Along with ones for Hunt for Red October.London_1 said:I used to go to a book club when I lived in Kent and we actually had quite a lot of laughing about some of the books the library suggested and we read.

I'm in a book club but it's more about the getting together once a month and having a catch up than the actual book sometimes, but we never use those discussion questions, just argue about why it was / wasn't good 😂
Current read is Home Before Dark by Riley Sager - my second book of his and it's not bad, gentle horror or just "uncanny" things happening as one of the characters calls it. Family buy a house with a past, things happen, the dad writes a bestselling book all about it but the daughter can't remember anything that happened so assumes her dad made it all up, or did he? The book alternates chapters between the "book" in the story and what's happening to the main character which is quite interesting. Already halfway through so will need to find something else to read on the pile soon!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20174 -

Still persisting with the Susie Dent book - now about 80% of the way through so feel I've invested so much time in it, I need to find out what the reveal is!

I'm not sure I've been getting updates about this thread, I'd agree with the earlier comments by Coxy11 about the definitions making her look clever. But then they are working on a dictionary.Coxy11 said:Still persisting with the Susie Dent book - now about 80% of the way through so feel I've invested so much time in it, I need to find out what the reveal is!
I'm not sure I remember the reveal, but I don't think I thought it was a huge surprise by the end.
