I went through my paper books last night as I went to a book swap and took a few without really paying attention. A few are going to be donated to a charity shop.
Someone told me about a book called The Perfect Child so that will be the book for next week.

Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

I'm reading it for this first time after never getting past the first chapter! I first picked it up in college in the 90s, probably after watching the 90s film version (the one with Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes), which I loved.
A small, orange, enamel teapot sort of person apparently...

I'm reading the new Shetland book by Ann Cleeves online from my local library. The new one by Bob Mortimer has just become available too so I'll have to get busy finishing the first one before the second one runs out!

Have finished Death of an Airman by Christopher St John Sprigg (Caudwell). It had a really good twist at the end and I enjoyed the language of the time. The biog said the author died in active service in the Spanish Civil War aged just 30 :(
I've now started The five people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom - enjoying it so far.

I love the British Library Crime Classics, Death of an Airman wasn't on my to read list but it is now, thank you.
Disapointingly, it isn't available at the library and I'm on a new book purchase ban until June, so I'll look forward to it as a summer read and hope I see it in a charity shop before then!

I just started this book. It is set in the big snow storm in the 1960s.

To my suprise, a local charity shop had (I think) the complete Mary Stewart romances, and I pounced on Stormy Petrel as a book I have only read from a library copy not the kindle version. I love her writing, it is reliably intelligent whilst still being, ahem, of its time. Feminism there is not much but the ladies tend not to be utterly witless helpless ninnies.

I'm reading book 6 in the Susan Hill series of Simon Serrailler books - The Betrayal of Trust. I really like the characters and the writing is great. Cannot believe it hasn't been made into a TV series.
Still sticking to my 2026 pledge to not buy any more books until I've read my current stash. It's hard but I'm staying strong.
