Kwik Fit Service... Overcharging

I linked to the correct Iridium NGKs for £11 each, not the £28 each KF have charged for them. (I'm assuming it's a 1.3 Yaris, since the 1.0 doesn't need a fourth plug)
They can be found cheaper elsewhere - change from a tenner each.

Ok so they charged 100% plus mark up on the plugs but that is why they are in business, If it was my car I would have checked prices before leaving it ( I would t have left it at kwikfit) but still don’t think it’s a rip offMildly_Miffed said:

2016 could be a 1.5, but NGK prices are similar. OEM Denso are more expensive.Mildly_Miffed said:

Going direct to the OE supplier, like NGK and you'll perhaps get less mark up as they are the first to make a profit out of them.photome said:

By the time they've got to Kwikfit, they would have passed through a few businesses as KwikFit won't have supply contracts with the likes of NGK, they'll have contracts with parts supply businesses and each of them will mark them up for a profit.
So saying Kwikfit has marked them up 100% isn't really fair, they've probably made a few quid each out of them. Probably a lot less than a main dealer would make out of them if you walked up to the parts counter or had them fitted as part of a service.0 -
So you are agreeing with me that it’s not a rip offGoudy said:

It's a rip off for sure but saying that it was Kwikfit that ripped them off might be a little unfair.photome said:

They would probably have paid over the odds for them to start with (certainly over NGK's price), then marked them up again themselves.

For a 2016 Yaris they should have used the Toyota recommendation of 0W 20 engine oil, not 5W 30. Check the handbook for recommended lubricants. Those spark plugs are too expensive, Denso, factory fit, Iridium plugs are about £12 each.Last month I paid a local trusted independent £190 for a full service and MoT, 2014 Toyota Yaris 1.33l Petrol.(0W 20 engine oil).0

People making profit isn't a rip off by definition. Each middleman has to get some margin so the more middlemen, the higher the price would be. This doesn't make it a rip off in any way.Goudy said:

Ok, so £12 each. How much for fitting? Don’t expect the OP to fit them themselves because the average person won’t be doing that so to me, £28 (plus VAT presumably) each doesn’t look too bad (assuming it does include the fitting, I can’t see labour charged separately)oldagetraveller1 said:For a 2016 Yaris they should have used the Toyota recommendation of 0W 20 engine oil, not 5W 30. I taught my 3 year old how to change spark plugs. He was pretty good, but then emptied my socket set all over the drive.0
