Just like the people who used to moan about not understanding that adds were expecting you to pay for a phone line to get free internet, (government sorted that), others began moaning about having to pay for a line if they wanted internet (or magic). This has been sorted by minimising the value of the line and charging a lot for the broadband, so now you can pay more for just internet and can't have a landline phone for much longer.

Perhaps a new saying, 'He who moans about it, ends up paying more for internet.'
  • What I mean is no wires to a phone socket as I don't have a phone socket or want one installed.

Ive read about Three 4G broadband the reviews are shocking though!

To get traditional broadband without a phone line will still require a cable being installed into the property. The router has to plug into something

Are you saying you do not want any cable into the house at all?

If so, that rules out any service on Open reach, City Fibre, Virgin etc.

You are limited to 4G/5G mobile or other wireless service.

TBH , both mobile and  wireless internet providers  are pretty site specific, especially so with wireless internet as  they tend to be available in very limited areas , you  could get a user giving rave reviews because in their area that provider is good  , but there is no guarantee in your area the performance would be similar.

Most suggest ( with 4/5G ) get a PAYG  SIM  and try it before committing to a deal , if you buy before you try , and it’s useless, that won’t allow you to cancel penalty free, but basically anyone saying ‘it’s great’ provides no useful information for where you are

I have 4g broadband from Three and its excellent, Unlimited Data, constant and consistent 100mbs speed upstream and down stream all for £18 per month.

I was looking up reviews on Three and most people say it's really bad, how long have you had it? Can you take it on the go with you? Do you have to put the hub in a specific place?

It all comes down to the 4g/5g coverage in your area. If you get a poor signal from the major networks then you are basically stuck.

You say reviews of Three are bad but it all depends on the mobile signal in an individuals area. Other people may say that Three is great but Vodafone is bad. For the hub location you put it where you get the best signal, it's as simple as that.

As pointed out above, it depends where you live. We get our best mobile phone and broadband signal from Three, it's acceptable from EE, rubbish from Vodafone and non-existent from O2. but that's irrelevant when it comes to assessing the sort of service you might get where you live or even inside your home

Looking at coverage maps might give you some idea of what sort of service is available where you live but they are only estimates based on terrain mapping, not by testing.

You cannot rely on them actually providing accurate service information. Ideally you should do your own survey by getting a pay-go Sim card from each of the network operators to find out which provider works best where you live before jumping in and signing a contract.

You should also bear in mind that 4g/5g services can be affected by weather and capacity so you need to test at various times of the day (especially peak times when all the kids come home from school and people arrive home from work) if you are going to rely on it for your broadband service.
