They are one-time codes sent by text from companies so you can login on their website.

It seems like the risk may be worth it for those who want it as a backup, but not for your main phone.
I use RWG for my main phone and have no problems receiving one-time codes/passwords.
Try a £1 sim card and test it before you commit yourself.

  • What does this actually mean “You just need to use sim at least once every 90 days to keep it alive”.

Does use mean a) switch on your phone b) receive an SMS or telephone call (and do you have to answer that call) or c) send an SMS or make a call (that somebody has to answer?)

    c) being the only clear chargeable event of the three.

  • You have to send a outgoing text or call,or use data.
It can be from your bundle or payg credit,it doesnt matter, as long as you do it before the 90th day
  • Thank you Alan, most helpful.
I am one of those dinosaurs never having been active with my own mobile phone before so apologies for the pedanticness but I presume making a call means that the recipient has to answer and therefore the call is charged. On an indirectly related matter; if you get near your credit limit or even go over it do you get a warning or would RWG suddenly disconnect and you lose your  number?

According to their terms on the website, if you run out of credit, services will stop untill you top up on the rwg website,or purchase a NOW mobile voucher from any paypoint shop.minimum top up £5
You are able to get incoming calls still with no credit.

And yes,the other person has to answer call to count as a chrgeable event

Or if it goes to voicemail (if we're being pedantic). In either case the call time will start going up and a charge incurred.
Interestingly enough tescomobile say an unanswered call counts towards their usage (check out the thread on tesco lite tariff)
