Parking charge

Today I received a letter asking for £170 for a parking charge from 6-1-24 reason insufficient paid time.
This is the first letter I have had concerning this. It's very worrying as I'm a pensioner on a small income.
Do I have to pay? It's from a company called dept recovery plus.

Thanks

Welcome.
You need to ask yourself why you never received anything before this debt collector's letter.
Is it perhaps because your vehicle's Registration Document(V5c) has an out of date address on it?
Anyway. the fourth post of the NEWBIES thread explains exactly how to deal with debt collector's letters, but to summarise that post - ignore them.
Does that DRP letter tell you who they are working on behalf of? I.e. which parking company is involved?

Hi yes, it's acting on behalf of Smart parking ltd
The vehicle is registered to me0 -
And by the way you won't be paying this.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks for the advice, sorry for making newbie mistakes and not reading the stickies but I got home read the letter and panicked. £170 is a lot of money for me.0

So... have you checked your vehicle's Registration Document?
Is the keeper's address correct on it?0 -

We know the vehicle is registered to you. We are asking you to check the address on the V5C? Just checking.
Someone posted this week an example of a complaint to NCP (I think?) in a similar situation which worked on another forum. I can't find it now but maybe someone recalls it.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Like you so many people don't receive 1st and/or 2nd pcn but the £170 payment due letter often manages to drop through letter boxes. PPCs always claim discounted/full rate pcns/court claim letters were sent as dated though they offer no evidence to prove this.
Since they CHOOSE NOT to provide evidence of their posting we must continue to press gov to ensure they do and see it included in the new Parking CoP. Please sign/share @jmccabe petition closes 22nd june 2024.

Require communications from Private Parking companies to be traceable/trackable
Thank you. There's lots of info on this forum and experts to help you challenge this £170 pcn. Don't allow the stream of DRP letters frighten you into paying.
