Had a letter to say we have to migrate from tax credit to UC by middle of march.
We are on tax and child tax credit and l work 20 hours a week and my husband is 65 and retired.
He will get his state pension in july when he is 66 , so what l would like to know is when we go across to UC will my husband be expected to be seeking employment for the next 16 weeks till he goes onto state pension.
Also if we are on UC will he still get his letter asking if he wants to apply for state pension as he is on UC or would he have to tell them ..
Would myself and our child be able to still claim UC when my husband goes on state pension or would we also be took off UC..

Not sure about UC but Husband should get a letter about 3 months before his 66th birthday asking if he wants to take SP.
I do know that if he delays taking his SP (which would increase the monthly amount) then he shouldn't decide to back date it to his 66th when he does take it as that will affect some benefits - which ones I'm not entirely sure but I've seen this cause a mess for some people.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. This amount will be deducted in full from UC.I don't honestly know how they will treat him regarding work given he is so close to SPA. According to the rules you need to be a jobseeker, whether they will enforce this rigidly is for them to decide.Unless you have caring responsibilities or a health condition may also be asked to look for more hours depending on your actual earninga and whether you meet your AET.1 -

Sorry we are not on about my husband delaying his state pension he will take it when he can in july.
What we need to know is can our child and myself stop on UC when my husband comes off it to take his state pension or will myself and our child also have to cancel UC ..0 -

If he doesn't currently claim a disability benefit then he will be treated as a job seeker. Unless he has a health condition and then he can report this, provide a fit note and go through the work capability assessment.

He won't come off the UC vlaim. You continue to claim as a couple, and his pension will be deducted from your UC0

My husband will be getting full state pension in july so l have a feeling his state pension would take most if all UC payments.
l dont know if it would be better not to claim UC at all , or go on UC till july and come off it so he gets his state pension.
Its knowing which one we would be better off doing , the positives of us as a family staying on UC , against positives of husband on state pension ..
Anyone been in this position before or know which could benefit us best.0 -

The new state pension amount from April 2024 is £221.20/week and the monthly deduction from UC will be £958.53/month. Are you claiming for help with the rent?
Even if there's no entitlement once he claims his state pension, it will still be worth claiming UC in the meantime. Once his state pension starts if your UC is reduced to zero after 6 months then it will just close.0 -

So if we go ahead and claim UC this month are we saying leave UC open and he applys for his state pension in july or earlier, will he then get his state pension through or will they deduct it from UC as we have left it open or just close it before he applys for SP.0 -
Your husband should apply for his state pension when he receives his letter advising him to. It will not be paid until he turns state pension age.0
