Moving from Shell to Octopus - Fuel tax?
Hi, We just had our energy account moved over from Shell Energy to Octopus Energy - as we were told Shell Energy is closing.
I've just been looking through my first bill from Octopus and there is something called a fuel tax on there - which has been seperated out from my gas and electric costs?
I've tried searching both the Octopus site and google, but unable to find any answers to this.
Does anyone know what it is? I don't remember this being on my old Shell bill?
Thanks in advance! :-)

My bills from Octopus have ‘VAT @ 5%’. Perhaps because of the switch from Shell they’ve named it differently - does it look like it’s 5%?0

Also moved from Shell to Octopus, I don't have fuel tax mentioned on my bill, but I don't have gas which may narrow it down a bit?0

Other strange charges are them suddenly crediting my account with £309.67 (a 'reversed charge' apparently) on the 10th MArch, and then charging my gas account £484.89 on the 10th Feb! I can't make head or tale of it!?
I pay £154 a month (have done since 2022 with Shell - no issues), am approx £270 in credit and they are reccommending I put my DD up to £170! Apparently my account is Octopus Variable.
Should I switch? And if so, what should I be looking for?0 -
Oh that is weird.
Have you had your PDF bill covering the date of the fuel tax payment?1 -

HiI have just been transferred over and I also queried what that was when I looked.I've looked at the shell bills and it's VAT, Octopus seem to word it differently and process it as a seperate transaction within their accounts.1
