Elderly parents and dog holding back the ideal plan of spending a couple of months there each year. Wife has looked at house swap opportunities to keep the costs down. Also got friends in Margaret River area in WA. Lovely area and not a bad place to see out retirement.Mr Straw described whiplash as "not so much an injury, more a profitable invention of the human imagination—undiagnosable except by third-rate doctors in the pay of the claims management companies or personal injury lawyers"0 -

I'm planning to use airbnb most probably around mosman for 3 or 4 weeks then a couple of weeks travelling. It's just my opinion and not advice.0 -
Sounds like you are well sorted….but when you say “ been retired 3 years” then immediately talk about “5 gardening jobs plus looking after a block of flats maintenance etc”…
…well, let’s say that doesn’t sound like retirement to me, sounds like a lot of time tied up with those things! 🤣
Just sayin’ - it clearly works for you, which is absolutely all that matters 💪
Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!1 -
Today,
Breakfast at local bagel shop
Went into my old university lab
Guardian reading, coffee and conversation.
Wired up some laser diodes and helped a couple of students
Pizza for lunch in common room
Seminar
Home for dinner and TVAnd so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.5 -
6 years in and I worried at the start that my days would be empty.
No they are not. You always find something to fo. In my case my wife and I look after grandkids 3 days a week which gives us something to focus on. As its done midweek we still have weekends.
Which consists of gym Mon & Fri, meeting friends & our favourite soccer games. (my wife supports one team & I support a rival)
Happy days5 -

Parking_Trouble said:Winter routine is a bit boring but feels like Spring is around the corner so preparing to come out of hibernation.
Spend a lot of time procrastinating because a lot of things can wait until tomorrow.
Dog walking provides a bit of structure.
Wordle and Spelling Bee.
Do enough around the house to keep the wife (also retired) off my back.
Practice darts on my newly installed board. Darts night every Wednesday with my son's mates (he is in Australia)
Planning Itinerary for Italy road trip. Week in Portugal sorted, Short trip to Germany for Euros sorted, Norway Fjords Cruise in September sorted. Numerous other events in the calendar to look forward to.
Cooking a (half price impulse buy) Wagyu brisket at the weekend. That needs some planning.
Currently searching for the most luxurious route to Australia at the best cost for a trip next January. Air travel prices have gone up a lot and the wife refuses to fly Economy after I took her Business class and First Class to Phuket and Perth last year.I'm recently retired from full-time work and I'm coming up to age 56.I've also just recently installed a dart board in my man cav...er...I mean shed! I've started playing for a pub team again after nearly 20 years out of the game. So I need to practice! I try to do an hour a day, so far concentrating on 20s, round the board singles, and then round the board doubles.I also like reading; currently on book 3 of Stephen King's Dark Tower saga. And I love The Witcher universe, and anything fantasy/sci-fi related. But I also like a good autobiography from time to time. I also bought a Kobo eReader and the entire collection of H.G. Wells novels (some 50 odd) for 99p! So I've been working my way through those. They're not all sci-fi, but I still enjoy reading his work. The last one I read was "Kipps", which was the novel that the musical "Half a Sixpence" was based.I play computer games, particularly some older Role Playing Games at the moment, e.g. The Witcher, and I've rediscovered Neverwinter Nights a PC game from 2002 based on the Dungeons and Dragons universe. I never completed the expansion modules for that, so now's my chance. Enjoying reminiscing with that. There are some cheap, older games on the Steam online platform, as well as new stuff. So plenty for older computers to run without having to upgrade to the latest machine. For a number of years I've been into the cheap Raspberry Pi single board computers and I recently bought the new Raspberry Pi 5. I use RetroPie to play all the old arcade, console and computer games by software emulation. These are all available for free from various places on the internet.I also like piano, but I'm not disciplined enough to practice regularly. I need to give myself a good talking to!I have synthesizers and music software too for electronic music. So plenty to do with that when I eventually get it into my routine. And I have a guitar somewhere that I haven't picked up for ages.I do a lot of the housework and thinking about (planning not doing!) home improvements, and I enjoy cooking.
My missus and I like to go for walks and explore trails. I recently invested in the "All Trails" app for iPhone, which is very useful. So is "UK Bus Checker" LOL.I also work in a pub part-time, which keeps some pocket money coming in for my various hobbies, and I'm an exam invigilator, which is a very similar job to my pub work; i.e. stare into space until something or someone grabs my attention! LOLOh, and I play badminton once a week, which is more a social thing than demonstrating my sporting prowess (or rather lack thereof). We don't have any plans for major travel yet as my missus is still working full-time and is a few years away from early retirement. But we are planning on buying a motor-home at some point in the near future to extend our countryside expeditions. If you want to be rich, live like you're poor; if you want to be poor, live like you're rich.13 -
So far I've held off from quoting Blur's Parklife lyrics in this thread, but it's oh so tempting ...

Well the dustmen actually DO come round on a Wednesday at our place; but I'm usually rudely awakened by my missus getting up for work!If you want to be rich, live like you're poor; if you want to be poor, live like you're rich.2 -
