@DustyMunchkin what letter appears at the end of you NI Number?  That usually indicates what day of the week you should get paid.
It is the last two digits of your NINO that determine what day of the week you get paid.

Sorry I should have checked before posting.  I knew it was something at the end.

The final letter denotes which week in the four weekly payment cycle you’re paid. For example all those with the letter B at the end were paid this week. From Monday it will be those ending with a C.

So knowing the final two digits and final letter will tell us exactly when your 4 week payment will be due.
Well, didn't know that one.  MrsM is a C, I am a D and my SIL is A and it does conform with next payments being 19th, 22nd and 31st.

Most people budget monthly so a payment every four weeks or every month is simple. Most jobs pay monthly, most other benefits are monthly. I cannot understand why someone wants payments coming in every week unless they are incredibly bad managing their money, monthly/four weekly are easy to manage.

Yes with the help of members on a state pension group I Admin, we’d managed to work out that there was some method to the 4 weekly payment cycle and sorted out a spreadsheet with the dates so people could work out when their likely first payment would be made. It’s not written anywhere on the DWP site but it’s proved to be correct.

Having a monthly budget but four weekly payments makes no sense at all. Your income will be less than your budget for eleven months in twelve.
I cannot understand why someone wants payments coming in every week
That's a shortfall in your understanding, then.
Have you never had a weekly-paid job?

I actually managed my budget annually, a chunk of my income goes into various savings accounts every month, one to cover my tax bill, one for actual savings and one to go towards costs which comes out in only one month of the year (car insurance, VED, holidays etc.), what month the income comes in in is largely irrelevant.

I did when I was 16-20, but ever since it has been monthly so not for more than twenty years. I do not know anyone now regardless of age or employment who is not paid monthly now. Entry level jobs in supermarkets, glass collector in a pub and upwards are all paid monthly because payroll is all processed each month, not run 52/53 times a year.

Rent/mortgage, utilities, council tax, streaming, memberships, mobile phone and broadband, pretty much everything apart from buying food, clothes and socialising comes out on a monthly (or annual) basis and those last three are ad-hoc not scheduled weekly. Having had a look at my bank/card statements nothing comes out weekly and the only weekly thing that I have had this year was when I have used offers on Hello Fresh and Gousto earlier in the year (because they deliver weekly).

The people I know who choose weekly payments are perfectly good at money management, had professional occupations where they were  monthly salaried and now receive occupational pensions paid monthly.

They just prefer to have the state pension in their interest bearing accounts rather than held back by the DWP........

According to this article, 18% of UK workers are paid weekly and one-third would like to be paid weekly:
A survey by Indeed Flex reveals that despite strong demand for a weekly pay packet, only 18% of UK employees are paid every seven days, while 5% receive their pay fortnightly. The majority, 71%, are paid in a single monthly instalment.
