The loss is that the monthly payments that have been made since the start of the lease will include a fee that goes towards the cost of the road tax.

But you were going to pay that anyway.  You haven't actually lost anything.  The only way you would have lost is if the police had stopped you and you ended up with a fine.

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • Hopefully this explains better than i was doing.

Again people are missing the point. I have made the monthly payments expecting the car to be taxed from 11 months ago. The fact that it has only been taxed today means the monies I have paid have not been used to tax the car previously.

This doesn't mean that you'll have the money refunded as you've incurred no financial loss yourself.

A seperate issue to the fact that the vehicle needs to be made legally driveable ASAP.  A goodwill gesture for the inconvience and additional expense incurred is worth pursuing.

So the only loser has been the DVLA, i.e. the taxpayer?
  • So let's get this right what you are saying - and I can't believe I am having to type this on a MSE forum. I have made my monthly instalments which include a portion for tax. The finance firm have failed to pay the tax. The DVLA will only tax the car from yesterday, they won't charge for the tax from last March and you think it's okay for the Finance company to pocket the money? Wow 🤣

This is a Money saving site so who do you think should get the money not paid to the DVLA

I assume you don’t want to pocket the money

It's not OK for the finance company to profit from tax evasion. Why do you think it's OK for you?

Have you contacted the lease company to sort this out?  Looks like an admin SNAFU.

Surely that would be the first thing to do instead of coming on here?

    I'm totally confused.

    Who has the V5?
Who is the Registered Keeper on the V5?
When did they become the RK?
    Is the car taxed now?
    Who taxed it?
