How do I escape whopping price rise by Plusnet?

For what it’s worth, I can’t see the point in trying to keep a copper landline, BT have decided that’s ending, they won’t change their minds on that, they never did when I worked for them, so if you continue being a customer of Plusnet you’ll end up being forced to go to BT and they charge like a wounded bull both for broadband and call charges, get in first, order voip from a provider, I went to A & A £1.44 a month rental 1 to 2p a min calls, Plusnet for FTTP £25.99 a month, anyway that’s what I did.

Did you keep your old landline number or have a new number with A & A ?Pete99 said:For what it’s worth, I can’t see the point in trying to keep a copper landline, BT have decided that’s ending, they won’t change their minds on that, they never did when I worked for them, so if you continue being a customer of Plusnet you’ll end up being forced to go to BT and they charge like a wounded bull both for broadband and call charges, get in first, order voip from a provider, I went to A & A £1.44 a month rental 1 to 2p a min calls, Plusnet for FTTP £25.99 a month, anyway that’s what I did.

I chose a new number and got it up and running before the FTTP was installed, the old one wasn't very memorable, but apparently you've got 30 days to port the number from your landline after the line has been ceased, then all you have to do is cancel the new number, or keep it as well as it's only £1.44 a month.

My problem is that the landline number has been ours for over 35 years ,and is used for all sorts of financial services as well as personal issues because the mobile signal here is very unreliable with any of the networks.Pete99 said:I chose a new number and got it up and running before the FTTP was installed, the old one wasn't very memorable, but apparently you've got 30 days to port the number from your landline after the line has been ceased, then all you have to do is cancel the new number, or keep it as well as it's only £1.44 a month.
Looks like I'll have to "risk" number port to someone like A & A, after my minimum contracted period with Plusnet ends this Summer, as I don't want to be caught short if Openreach "switch off PSTN earlier than Dec 25.0 -
Have a look on the Plusnet website, Plusnet.net – More - Community – Home Phone, comment entitled “Split phone number (move to VoIP) from broadband”, the penultimate post explains how they managed to successfully port their number to A & A.
