Octopus Solar offer? Any negatives?

  • One question that springs to mind.  Did you apply for a Warm Home Grant?  If so then great.

Some areas aren't eligible for them so in my case I would have been charges £15k for the Octopus option through Project Solar but when I did my sums I wasn't going to go with them until I've have some more quotes for a similar system.  They were offering low light panels rather than Sun generation only, which I'd never heard of and coming onto here there are a few negative reports about Project Solar as well.
We are eligible for Warmer Home , but didn't specifically ask them for solar. Upon researching, I see that it is only rolled out in certain areas, ours being one of them.

My 6.5kWh Growatt battery was sometimes not  enough to get me through the whole evening in winter, until I changed to Agile where I find myself topping up the battery in the slightly cheaper period during daylight hours.
Happy to import any amount of energy as long as it’s less than 15p, as then any generation once my battery is full that is exported will earn me the same 15p fixed rate.
    Thanks for info. very helpful
  • Just read the forum posts for the company that operate this scheme through Octopus (Project Solar) , and I really don't like what I see - even if it's free, there is still much to be considered.

My only contact with them has already irked me somewhat, as they said they need 1 or 2 hours in property to 'discuss the proposal'....and this is the bit that I found less than professional...they said 'here is the date we can do...' and as you know this is on a first come first served basis , so we advise you take this slot'.

    Yes, the very same.
I just started a new thread asking specifically about them.

if what  your getting is free ,take it .I think some of the project solar problems were getting too much work quickly .I cant see any problems that would cause a outrage .you will have a warranty and can always go back to Octopus as a last resort .The problem with these Forums is that we all have a idea of what a perfect set up is but would grab this with both hands

Thanks for that. I normally research for ages before doing something, but this just 'appeared' and so far I am gathering thoughts/opinions and facts about it

The other thing to remember is that while people with problems don’t hold back and post on forums or social media, people who don’t have problems rarely bother.

    Yes, good point.
  • We had that company come and quote. They were a real pain in the butt. Took us ages to get rid of them and to stop contacting us. Insisted on walking through the house looking at each room, felt this was a real invasion of privacy, and also insist that we both present. Took hours. They are salespeople paid on commission. But if it 8s free then go for it but be resistant to upselling.
