Cost of living payments

Worrying and stressing about a payment beyond your control will not materialise it into your bank account any faster, questions asking about others recieving the payment is pointless since a FOI request has confirmed payments are made in computer randomised batches which change every time so others payment dates are irrelevant. I have no idea how these people who cannot wait 2 weeks for the payment are going to cope in the future since there is not going to be any further COLP.TheLivingStone said:I don't understand people's issue with others discussing the col payment. You don't know what people have been through to land them in utter desperate circumstances.I'll be checking my bank at 8am, hoping and praying it's there.5 -
Discussing what? If someone is asking about eligibility thats perfectly ok but talking about when they are gonna get the payment or when others have received it isn't helpful. People are either moaning that they haven't received it or bragging that they have(which you have also done). Like I said it isn't helpful to others and causes more stress(which again is pointless because it's out of your control )because they are still waiting. Unless someone's missed the payment window or asking if they are entitled, these "discussions"are unnecessary.TheLivingStone said:poppy12345 said:
They can moan all they want but the date it goes into their bank is beyond anyone's control and nothing we can do about it. They give a payment window because it's impossible to pay millions of people on the same day.TheLivingStone said:I don't understand people's issue with others discussing the col payment. You don't know what people have been through to land them in utter desperate circumstances.I'll be checking my bank at 8am, hoping and praying it's there.I specifically said discussing, not moaning.Mines went in today.2 -

This forum is for assistance and help with benefits and tax credits. It is aimed for people to ask questions about their benefits and TC. However there is actually no way anyone can advise anyone else when they may or may not receive the COL payments and speculation about it being done in regions/alphabetical order/ within or out with your next payment ect doesnt help anyone.TheLivingStone said:I don't understand people's issue with others discussing the col payment. You don't know what people have been through to land them in utter desperate circumstances.I'll be checking my bank at 8am, hoping and praying it's there.
Equally as this is the last COL those who are in dire straights should be looking elsewhere within the forums for further advice.
So therefore having a thread about having not recieved the COL or having the COL is somewhat counter productive. The best thing to do is await the end of the payment window and then ask “Where’s my COL”, because if you asked today the answer will be who knows, but they have until 22 Feb to pay it.
I get that in times of need you load hope in receiving it on the first few days of the payment window, but there was never a guarantee of that payment and actually with the window being until 22 Feb then I personally would plan to receive it then and if it comes in any earlier then its a bonus.

Because it won't help anyone... we all know large numbers of people have had theirs and large numbers haven't. The board is about getting people their benefit entitlements... and for that end the government website is crystal clear on entitlement and payment windows. Only if people think they are entitled and go beyond the payment window is there any relevance here as then it becomes a matter of helping someone get their entitlement.TheLivingStone said:I don't understand people's issue with others discussing the col payment. You don't know what people have been through to land them in utter desperate circumstances.I'll be checking my bank at 8am, hoping and praying it's there."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack3 -
Haven’t had mine, the other COL payments were in within the 1st couple of days of the payment window.
Not that I’m worried, as people have pointed out, it might not be in my account until the 22nd.
Hope everyone that’s entitled to it gets their payment by the 22nd.3 -
Some numbers:They are making 1,600,000 automatic CoL payments per day.
They have already made 3,200,000 of them yesterday and today.
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cost-of-living-payment-2023-to-2024-management-information/cost-of-living-payment-2023-to-2024-management-information#means-tested-benefits-cost-of-living-payment-third-paymentThere are around 7,500,000 to make altogether.
That will take 5 days overall, so most (6,400,000 of us) should have it by this Friday.
The remaining 1,100,000 or so should get it next Tuesday. (They skip weekends and Mondays). They then have until the 22nd to sort out any 'failed' automatic payments because of errors, closed bank accounts, etc.So it is only if you haven't received a CoL payment by the 23rd that you can consider it as being missing and report it.
Anything before then is just waiting time.

Spot on. I've been waiting for my Winter Heating Payment (Scotland). They said it would start being distributed mid December and most would receive it by the end of January. My brother received his mid December and I am still waiting. I called Social Security Scotland and they have an automated message saying to call back if we haven't received it by 29th February. I'm happy to do so, because I know I am entitled to it and will get it. Same with the COL payment. I don't include such payments when I budget every month, so whether I get it on the first day or last day, it's not a big deal. It's a bonus whenever I get it.peteuk said:
