  • We have exactly the same problem.  A £3500 investment made by grandparents.  Never taken out but now being told it was repaid.  We can prove through bank accounts and building societies no payments were taken.  My son was relying on that investment and no records from a national service because it is not in the interests of taxpayers … 🤷‍♀️

Nope. There's a legal requirement as to how long it's neccessary to retain financial informaton. Once passed the data can be destroyed.

Logically, this isn't (provably) true -- you can show payments were not made into specific account at specific times for which you have paperwork.

You can't prove a negative. So their answer would be "you took payment into _another_ account" -- the one you've forgotten about/don't have paperwork for/was opened by a family member without you knowing etc.

Of course they won't have paperwork to show which account it went into, but it's definitely the _other_ one. Which leaves you with nowhere to go.

Back in those days payment would probably have been by cheque.

Hi, I have contacted the Financial Ombudsman who are requesting a few more bits of info. I've done it through Resolver. Might be worth a go?
