Question about Glass for Bathroom Mirror

We currently have a mirror in our bathroom that hangs on the wall, in the same way that a painting does. We would like to replace it but rather than go through a long, and possibly fruitless, process of trying to find something ready-made, with a frame that we like and is also is the right size, I thought that I would have one made
Some time ago I called at a picture framing shop and asked them about it and they said they could supply a piece of mirror of any size and frame it with the frame of my choice. Before doing this I wanted to ask if you can buy glass that would not shatter if the mirror fell off the wall (I didn't think to ask the framing shop that question). I've no idea what sort of glass the current mirror is made from but as we're going to change it I would like to take the opportunity to have something that was as safe as possible to have in a bathroom.
I would appreciate any advice on the type of mirror I should get and also whether there are better options than a framing shop to have one made (I do want it to be framed, not just a piece of mirror hanging on the wall).

I am sure you will be able to buy a shatterproof mirror , as for fixing to a wall is it tiled? i fitted our normal glass mirror to the wall with twin sided tape ,never moved and had a job to get it off when we had the bathroom re-modelled.1

I think shatterproof mirrors are all acrylic, rather than actual glass - this means they scratch more easily, but you can buy cut to size pieces which your shop could then frame.Cloth_of_Gold said:Ganga said:Just googled them and Amazon ,Ikea etc all do shatter proof mirrorsNo, it will go on the only wall that is not tiled. As I explained, I don't want to buy a ready-made one, I want to buy a 'bespoke' one and want to be sure that I know what to ask for in terms of the glass, especially if I'm buying from a frame shop that probably doesn't make bathroom mirrors normally.
I've bought a cut to size acrylic table top from this company before - really happy with it too.

Edit: it seems stainless steel may also be an option, but how rust resistant and mirror like that will be, I'm not sure. I do have a purse mirror which is stainless steel which works pretty well though

I didn't even know they made plastic mirrors, or stainless steel ones for that matter.I'm trying to reduce the amount of plastic I use so that would be a no-no really. The metal one might be ok. Subject to any other ideas that might be posted I'll give them a ring and see if a stainless steel one would be suitable.

I was also going to suggest laminated glass, but if you're against plastic that wouldn't work, and I'm not sure if you can get it mirrored.Cloth_of_Gold said:Emmia said:

Edit: stainless steel would probably be recyclable at the end of life too.0 -
Never mind picture framing shops.
Try your local independent glazier.

Will they have a good selection of frames (or indeed any frames) and be able to frame it though?

I was thinking that. I wonder if it would look just like glass though or be obviously metal.

It won't look exactly like glass, I think if you want the look of glass and you're not willing to consider a plastic, then it would have to be glass.Cloth_of_Gold said:Emmia said:

But a plastic also won't look quite like glass... To see what that would be like you could see if any shops near you have unbreakable mirrors on display.1
