Could you get a second sim just to use when you don't have a goodybag? Rwg are 5p per minute and a requirement of one call or text every 90 days.

The mobile cost less than £100 and her Lebara deal at £7 a month gives her unlimited calls and texts.
The ASDA Talk & Text SIM is just £4 per month, for unlimited calls and texts, and you can get a mobile phone from them for around £30.

18185, 1899, topupnow and various other finera companies still actually work if you're after the odd call now and again from your landline, 2p/min and 4p connection fee if I recall correctly. You need to access via the 0808 number these days.

Thank you I missed your reply amongst the others offering me mobile package prices. If you ring the 0808 number would you have to pay a connection charge as well

You don't pay a connection charge to your service provider as calls to 0808 numbers are free.
You do pay 18185 a one off 4p connection charge for each call, plus the call rate which is currently 2p a minute to UK landlines.
So for example, for a 10 minute call you would be billed 24p.https://www.18185.co.uk/rates-mobile
