If you've got BB and are talking with the same people regularly then you can use an IP-based service.
If your mobile phone contact can use WiFi for calls then they don't go against your minutes allowance.
I ditched my landline a while ago; I sometimes felt like I was running it just for the pleasure of cold-callers.
Mum uses landline. I only need it for her. I don't phone anyone else as I WhatsApp my friends. Just want something in case I need to ring her and not cost absolute fortune
  • I used to have unlimited anytime calls included in my package but switched to new provider. I don't make many landline calls but would like the option in case I need to. I don't have unlimited mins on mobile so want to save them more for when I need them. I am with shell energy for landline and BB. Thanks.
If it's not a PAYG mobile contract then it may be easier to swap providers. Most contracts have U/L minutes and texts  nowadays. I pay just £5 a month for my O2 sim for that plus whatever my data limit is.
I love Giffgaff I make enough payback to cover my mobile costs
Aren't all Giffgaff deals unlimited UK calls and texts?

Yes but I don't buy goody bags every month. Hubby does and rings me but most of time I am PAYG and I only work few hours a day and not allowed on phone when I am at work so rest of time I use WiFi for WhatsApp

You do realise that if you have a mobile SIM with unlimited minutes, this includes unlimited calls to landlines? This is a lot cheaper than paying for a landline.
  • I'm on a Tesco Mobile SIM only contract paying £7.50pm with unlimited calls and texts (a lot cheaper than having a landline)

I have a good deal with shell BB and landline. I need a LL for mum to ring me. I just want the option to make an odd call cheaply on the landline if there are any companies that still do it. I love GG and not wanting to switch

Ahh, it's been awhile since I was on Giffgaff and I'd forgotten how it works.

Can you not send your mum a text or whatsapp message and she calls you, presuming she has UL minutes or a call plan of some description?
  • The other option if none of the above works is to bite the bullet and get a £6 goodybag if 1GB of data suits when you feel the need to call. (there are cheaper sims however)

That's what I do at the moment but sometimes she isn't looking at her mobile .

18185, 1899, topupnow and various other finera companies still actually work if you're after the odd call now and again from your landline, 2p/min and 4p connection fee if I recall correctly. You need to access via the 0808 number these days.
