I stopped doing contracts a couple of years ago and haven't looked back.
Lebara (runs on Vodafone) have 15Gb with unlimited calls and texts @ 99p for six months. After that the price goes to £7.90, but at that point you can port out and back in to a new Lebara deal.

I spoke to Vodafone on chat regarding this, below is an excerpt of their comments:

"You haven't a sim plan, you have a device deal with an airtime plan, the prices are completely different"

"This is not about loyalty, is about 2 different deals, device and Sim only deal"

Basically said there is nothing they can do and instead tried to sell me more stuff!

  • You missed that important bit, sounded like you had a sim only plan hence the advice given. If a handset is involved it's a different story. Though they're sepatate it's an agreed contract so nothing can be done mid contract

Some providers will allow you to change tariff mid term, it is also possible for the device repayment plan to be longer than the airtime minimum term (probably on the basis that you will keep paying for the plan until you have paid off the handset. Sadly you are probably overpaying for your connection to make up for getting a good price on the handset.  Having been a customer for two minutes or twenty years doesn't really matter.

It never pays to be a loyal customer. The best deals are always reserved for new customers as companies know most people are lazy and can't be bothered to search for a better deal when their contract ends.

When you're in the last month of your contract, ask for your PAC code. Then go on the MSE Cheap SIM finder and find the best deal for you. Then transfer your number number over using your PAC code.

I assume you haven't finish the min term?
  • Yes i have a contract phone.
"I assume you haven't finish the min term?" - not sure what this means... i have paid £360 of £540 for the device

    I probably use 10GB.
If you can manage on 5000 minutes and 5000 texts, you can get 10GB on a PAYG SIM for £10 per month, with Tesco Mobile.

£12.50 will get you 15GB, with the same 5000 minutes and 5000 texts.

You have agreed to pay monthly for your phone connection for a minimum term, usually 12 or 24 months. So if you decide you no longer wish to use the service you need to pay up for the remainder of your contract. When you are getting a discounted phone as part of the deal you may find your minimum term is longer.

If you want to know how much you have left on your contract then Text:info to 85075 you will then get a text back with-in a couple of mins from Vodafone Telling you how much you have left on your contract and how long left.

Then if you wanted to leave you could get a Pac code and go to another network....So all you do is Text:Pac to 65075 then again with-in a couple of mins you will receive a text with the code.

You now give that code to the new provider and when your number goes live you contract with Vodafone will finish automatic.
You don't even have to talk to Vodafone if you want to move your number away from Vodafone.

If you want to stay with Vodafone then sorry you will have to talk to them to get a deal.
