I don't want the hassle of no heating/electricity for a day when it's still cold and I work from home.
Ours was installed last January. Power wasn't even off for an hour.
Ours was in July, but same - power was off for less than an hour.
Had mine installed back in May. electricity was off for about an hour as I wanted an isolator switch installed between meter & consumer unit. Gas got capped (long story), and didn't get turned back on until the beginning of July.

Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

    I had a 2-pole isolator fitted, too.

To my knowledge there is no need to change the meters because they near their end of life or need replacing.

If you know the model of your electricity meter your can work out when its certification will expire from:

Thanks for the link, I think this is 63 years old now, so well past its 45 year life span. I guess it is now time to accept the inevitable change to a smart meter.

While the Which article talks about smart meters being installed in dumb mode, there's no evidence of this being possible in practice.
This is the case with SMETS1 meters. Not so SMETS2.
    I'm not being lazy ...
    I'm just in energy-saving mode.

The chap who installed my smart meters said it's the two figures at the start of the serial number which denote the age. My old one started S68, which meant it was from 1968, although it had a sticker saying it been recertificated in 1990 - my house was only built then and I've been here since that date, so I know when it was installed. It must have been removed from another property - why I wouldn't know. When I think that I was still at junior school when that meter first entered service and apart from a short gap in 1990 it had been in continuous use since, up until just last year, I'd say it had done OK.

On that basis though, I'd say that yours is from 1980, unless the guy who told me that was wrong.
