surely people will realise it makes no sense to bid on items until the last second with this site?
ah right, i see now, they add 30 seconds on when you bid so you can't do that... hmm, seems a very odd site, i can't imagine sane people being interested in it.
I've just had a look at the telebid website and as far as I can see it's all a big con. Very poor site, when I'm bidding on an auction I wouldn't expect the time the auction ends to jump up by 15 seconds, that is just so rubbish. I much prefer eBay where it ends at the precise time and people can't jump in just after you. This Telebid is run very much like those reverse auctions as well. It does however state at the bottom of the auction that the auction must end by a date, so the best way to win on this site is not to bid until that day (which possibly by then the item will have sold already).0 -

Yes the 15 minute increment is explained in their help file, it's to do with bid butlers. At the end of the auction all bid butlers dump their bids all in one go on the auction and each bid butler that adds to the auction adds extra time to the auction
If there are two or more BidButlers bidding against each other, all the consecutive BidButler bids are placed immediately, and the price and countdown increase with each BidButler bid placed.
e.g. 11 BidButler bids are placed immediately one after the other. They add 11 x 7p (77p). As the timer was at 5 seconds when these bids were triggered, the first BidButler bid only added 15 seconds, but the other ten add 20 seconds each, so they add (15 + 10 x 20 = 215) seconds , or 3 minutes 35 seconds to the counter to bring the timer up to 3 minutes 40 seconds.
It's really confusing - oh and as for someone saying it's like in a real auction - yeah but in a real auction house you don't pay for every single bid - this is just one big con. My other major concern is that there is nothing to stop the owners of the website having bot bidders in the background to ensure they get their money back on the item (a similar con is pulled off by TV quiz companies where they give a really easy question and tell people to call in with the answer, and then they only let one person through once they've made their money back for the prize - no doubt all the items that they don't make a profit on anyway will probably be insured for that).0 -
I still say anyone STUPID enough to BUY bids deserves to lose everything.
I hope you people claiming to have bought bids are simply spammers for the site, if not..... breathe in....... breathe out...... now keep repeating0 -

There are a lot of unhappy people claiming to have bought bids and lost the lot, seems a silly sort of advertising spam... :rotfl:
On another tact, has anyone anything new on this site (the comment about the same winner bidding across the world was interesting and broke the recent monotony, that would point to fraud if proved?), as now it just seems a lot of people saying it is a con?Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
Hoping this hasn't already been posted in this thread, (i haven't read every single post), but, telebid is now called swoopo.
I signed up to this site, thinking "ps3 £14.78, bargain. I'll get on that". But then, after you sign up, i found out it was 50p a bid. Lots of money imo.
Don't think i'll be bidding, cause i know what will happen. It'll go like this-
Firstly i'll think, "i'll just buy £10 worth and will bid when the price gets a bit more and people have dropped out" then when i do bid, i'll bid again and again and...... opps, need more bids, quick, i'll buy £10 more...... bid bid bid...... gotta win it now, otherwise i've wasted £20, I better buy some more. £30 now, then £40 then, agh, my PC has crashed, Laptop has run out of Batt. agh i've lost. Quick, i'll bid on another to justify my outgoings..... and on and on it goes.

The title of the thread should be edited to include www.swoopo.com / .co.uk so it comes up in google when people are looking for information on the site.0

Why swoopo.com? That isn't only this kind of site. In Northern Europe are this kind of sites very popular. Example, in Finland and Estonia are more than a 20 very popular this kind of sites and there are they called "CENTAUCTION".
Some examples:
Estonia
http://www.sendioksjon.ee/
http://www.sendikas.ee/
Finland
http://www.sentti.fi/
http://www.huutori.com/
So maybe the right name of the topic is "Centauctions"?0 -
here is an example of the so called swoopo savings and there are many more of these savings to be made if your daft enough i actually spent £55 buying these bids to find out this
Congratulations,
Zwergpflaume!

if you look back on previous auctions you will find a number of these and this is for 300 free bids which would cost £150 so why spend £664???? i think this is rigged so every now and again somebody does win but who knows is it a con i believe so so save your money and stick to throwing away somewhere else you might just get something in return0 -

Presumably those bids came from different people, one person wont have spend £664, however one of the nasty parts of these types of sites is that you have spent say £120 on something worth £150, it seems stupid to stop there and get nothing, people would rather keep spending and spend £180 and get the item rather than spend £120 and get nothing. THis cycle continues though, and they end up having spent twice the price of the item and by then they're so deep in they really don't want to quit and get absolutely nothing for their cash.Bought, not Brought0
