  • aahh... but are those people who appear to keep on winning things "Real" users, who's to say that they are not ghost users created by Telebid to keep the bids up/keep the item for selling for a loss? I think that anyone with such dubious ethics as to create this website wouldn't bat an eyelid at creating false user accounts to boost the number of bids. I saw some person pay over £500 in combined bids and final auction fee, for a TomTom you can get in Halfords for £336; and before you ask, it wasn't one that was a fixed price or 100% off, poor guy, I bet he was so far in that they just started throwing good money after bad, as it was better to have something to show for you money rather than nothing even if you paid over the odds for it.

I budgeted £50 (100 bids) as an experiment/bit of fun, I focused on one product (a Sony PSP) and did very carefull bidding; it's such a random process, and you're never quite sure if you bidding against someone who understands the system, or as in the case above, doesn't, needless to say I spent all my bids and won nothing. It's a very clever website and is making money hand over fist for the owners, just wish I had thought of it first!
  • I've had a good look at this and to be honest it's fascinating (but not fascinating enough for me to put my hand in my pocket)

The thing to remember with this site.....you see an ended auction for a DS that went for £20 so it makes you want to bid on the next one coming up. But....if you divide that £20 by 7 pence that's 285 bids that have been made, that means that collectively everyone bidding has paid over £142. How many of the bidders in that £142 had bought £5 or £10 worth of bids and given up when they had finished them or how much of that £142 was paid by the winning bidder who then had to pay £20 plus P&P.
I've gambled and lost in the past on horses, fruit machines etc. All I can see happening with this is poor folk that can't afford it losing money and losing out.
Telebid are laughing their socks off at the shocking profits they're making out of their customer.
Please think very carefully if this is tempting you!
  • I can't believe I was soooo stupid. Normally I am a sceptical wench, but, I was desperate for a Wii Fit. I saw the advert for Telebid, bought £25.00 worth of bids and started bidding. Whaahaay! this is great I thought, bidding frantically, until, I got a message to replenish my bidding money. £25.00 down the toilet and.... no Wii Fit! It took a moment to grasp the concept that I had just spent £25.00 for the privilege of placing a bid on something that I had neither won, nor was I likely to. NEVER AGAIN! At least on Ebay
placing a bid is free, as it should be. I won't even begin to work out how much the 7p bids, that cost 50p in real terms, made for Telebid. It is one big Con. I am awaiting a reply from Customer Services confirming what I figured to be how it works, just because I cannot believe, that this is actually, how it all works. I keep expecting to be e-mailed and told that what I was bidding with was virtual money and my £25.00 would only be used, if I won! Yeah Right! Don't waste any more precious, hard earnt, money on a scam like this. The only people that really win are Telebid.
  • Just saw this advertised on facebook and thought it looked too good to be true and of course it is!!!!!!! Want a nintendo ds saw one on here going to £20 (not including the 50p per bid!!) thought i would register then sit and watch how it works. Thank goodness i didnt buy any bids. Watched the ds and it only had a couple of minutes left, everytime someone bid on it the time went up 15 seconds, then it would get down to 2 seconds someone else would bid and up again it would go to 15 seconds left! Madness
will not be using this site.
If you get a bargin good luck!!!!

That site makes telebid seem quite amateur in extracting funds from unsuspecting saps/unfortunates.

In fact, I distinctly saw that BMW auction go to 1 second and it was definitely more than a second before it rose up to a minute again.

Some would call that immoral, but I cannot comment personally...

    I kinda like it.

It keeps all the retards who think they will win something in the same place.

I gave up trying to understand why people would buy bids ages ago!!
  • To further this disscusion, from a programming perspective:-

If I had no morality, sense of fairness and was in charge of something like telebid, a bingo or gambling site, I would make the hosting server place false bids until the number of real bids had exceeded the retail price value which would be stored in the database/catalogue along with real amount of bidders, as would I force similar numbers on peoples bingo cards/sheets and hold off lucky numbers.

I'm not entirely sure of the legalities of this practice or how bingo sites work, but I guess it depends in which country the website is hosted.
  • I've been studying Telebid over the last 48 hours (sad), with a purchase of some £35 worth of bids. I have also been noting down frequent bidders and what I have concluded is that bidders that use the 'Bid Butler' will win the hot auctions. However, these 'Bid Butlers' have to spend fortunes to win an item, which makes me think, are these real people using 'Bid Butler' or Telebid's automated bidding swindle more money out of the general public? I have been following a penny auction and funnily it has just ended at £33.30, that's 3,330 bids at £0.50, which equates to £1665 for a product that you can buy for around £1000. I then did a search on google for the winner's username that won the auction and their name comes up all over place with Telebid wins, even on Telebid websites in different countries!
My conclusion is that, I do not trust this Telebid site as I have wasted my bids against what I think are fake organised bidders that seem to win all the hot products.
