thanks Lone Ranger for your support.
i am wading through paperwork and getting all those letters stuffed behind the wardrobe out.
will post back as would appreciate some help with contacting debt companies.
Aktiv Kapital are chasing me - and i didnt include it in my list of debts yesterday - because I dont owe them a thing! it relates to a freezer we paid for in full about 10 years ago apparently!
anybody else dealt with this company? do i ignore their threats?

What I did was I bought an accounts book and had a page for each debt.I put company names, addresses, telephone numbers, name of the person the original debt was owed to(if it was now in the hands of a debt collection agency) account no. and balance. Arranged a date, balance, agreed payments, method of payment, amount paid and balance column. This way every page had all the info needed if I had to contact someone and I could keep an up to date record of how I was doing. Then on a sheet of paper I wrote down every debt and calculated pro rata what I could offer (CAB will help you to do this) every month when my payments go out I make the deductions in my book and it is encouraging to look back and see how far you have come. Makes you feel in control and is much better to know exactly what you paid to who and when, all in one book, information at your fingertips is great if you get an unexpected phone call from any of your creditors, much better than sifting through dozens of letters.Mutual Supporters club member (Nov 2006)

Am glad you're getting to grips. It sounds as though it's quite cathartic for you too so keep going. I'm also glad you've felt able to speak with OH and you seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet at last.
I must ask though, where on Earth has c£3k being going each month? You have had yourself in knots trying to stretch family allowance with all that money sloshing around?
Your monthly outgoings are c£564 so based on what you've posted above (around £6,200 including council tax) it shouldn't be too long before your feet are cleared of outstanding debt.
I shall watch with interest and wish you all the very best.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -

I am so glad that you have been able to chat with OH. have you thought about having a joint account for bills, where you BOTH pay enough into for the utilities, council tax, mortgage etc, as a proportion of your income, but then the rest stays in your own accounts as your money. That way both of you will know just how much things cost now a days, but you will also both have a bit of you money each?
best of luck and I hope the chat with the council ref the council tax goes well
