Its a no notice account to cancel so the day they open the lines you can call them, find out if there is a feee to not and decide then if you want to keep the account or close it that day.

I was told by UKI tonight that my no-charge medical upgrade will mean my insurance stays with them until this time next year, when it will transfer to Aviva
The guide issued by Nationwide states if you don't have a upgrade the terms will change on 01-05-24 as you have not been charged a additional fee for the medical condition and it has been included in the policy this would not be classed as a upgrade.
Have phoned and chatted but the only answer given you have to wait on till the 01-05-24 to see if this is going to be included within the policy and not a charged upgrade.
Have raised a complaint due to the lack of answers

Meanwhile you paid the fees between now and then
If you have payments coming in or going out you can't close it that day

Does their booklet actually specify that a fee must be paid though? Because my upgrade renewal letter is exactly that, an auto renewal of my upgrade which happens to be for zero fee. An upgrade.

Given that you're meant to declare COVID, most people could stay with UKI for another year if they wished.... But only if the unpaid upgrade does the job

And you are insured between now and then

If you actually use it as an account then agreed its not practical to close it same day but it can be closed in a week using a switching service

Phoned today was told that the medical condition drops of the policy after 12 months so must never have received renewal letter had to give details and now covered for 12 months with UK insurance no fee payable
Covid isn't mention by name unless you assume its included in breathing difficulties examples given (Asthma & COPD)
  • I'm considering arranging a cruise upgrade now for my cruise at the end of May with UKI because they have already covered our existing (minor) conditions, although we weren't planning on doing the cruise upgrade at all this time. This then locks us in with the original provider at least until we have done the cruise.  There is no guarantee that we will be covered with Aviva without additional charge for existing conditions.
Annoyingly the website for FlexPlus travel insurance with Aviva doesn't seem to be up and running yet so there's no way of checking we'll be covered in May, until May. I'm not sure what people travelling in early May are doing, perhaps unknowingly travelling without cover!
In the meantime I've used a recommended comparison site for travel insurance to get a quote for a one off trip (with extra cruise cover) with our existing conditions, which was around £75 for a couple with £5k cancellation cover (the highest available), the Post Office was the best one. This means if the Aviva screening throws up a big charge for cover, I'll go with the standalone one trip policy.
