Gas supplier with decent customer service?

Another recommendation for Octopus. Ask around your friends for someone already with them, and when they refer you, you'll both receive £50 credit to your accounts.1

And another vote for Octopus. Migrated to them when Avro went under in 2021. I requested smart meters shortly after installing new boiler in our new (to us) home, all done on schedule & working as expected.
Had very few issues with them & they actually respond to queries. I really like being in control of my DD & ease of obtaining refund if credit climbs too high.Best supplier I’ve ever been with.2 -
Another vote for Octopus. If you join, do consider going onto the Tracker tarrif at a later date.1

When we moved last month our supply was initially with EON and I must admit they were very responsive to emails and answered all queries quickly.
I moved to Octopus for the Gas Tracker and Agile tariffs as I’ve been with them previously and I used to be impressed with their customer service but I noticed that for email contact this has gone down hill recently.
I had emails being responded to once but follow up questions not being answered and some queries not being answered at all.
If you contact Octopus via X (Twitter) it’s fantastic though.0 -

We are supplied by Outfox the Market and we have had no problems with them at all in the time we have been with them (since May 2021)
They respond to emails very quickly, adjust the direct debit payment quickly and accurately and their monthly billing system is simple and easy to understand.0 -

BG are ok on their online chat, if you hold your ground, but it can take a bit of time for the first response. Octopus are ok too and have a better range of tariffs than most but for normal users without an EV or solar or odd hours there isn't much in it - BG no longer offers variable DD's on their "new" accounting system but I am not sure I would want to let an energy company have "free" access to my bank account, anyway, as the industry in general is crooked and the regulator hapless.0

My experience has been that no supplier is perfect. The worst ever supplier in the ~50 years I've been a customer was Octopus - I gave up trying to get the last tranche of money they owe me. Absolutely appalling customer service, and they added insult to injury by signing off every letter with "love and peace" or some such stupidity. Nothing would ever induce me to use them again.Second worst was British Gas. Mostly just incompetence, they never seemed to know what was going on and every phone call was a frustrating exercise in explaining the problem from the start. Seems they didn't maintain any sort of records.Utility Warehouse were fine until I had a problem with them doubling my direct debit when I was massively in credit. Their call centre treated me like a child for around ten minutes until I got so exasperated that I asked for the call to be elevated to someone with some decision making capability. Turned out their policy is to assume that all customers over 65 are suffering from dementia and hence cannot be relied on to understand anything. I jest not, I had to get them to remove the "vulnerable customer" flag from their system in order to be treated as a normal individual.SSE were very good for years, never had any problems with them, their customer service was very good indeed, only problem was that they were consistently more expensive than pretty much anyone else.EDF have been OK for the six months I've been with them, but they (along with many others) play fast and loose with pricing. They recently increased my bill by about 22%, despite the price cap, because as an E7 SVR customer I have no practical protection (the Ofcom cap doesn't work at all well for high off-peak consumers). Not sure I can really recommend any supplier TBH. They are all a mix of good and bad and most of them are probably fine until something goes wrong. It's only then that you get to find out how good they really are, by which time it's too late. My only word of caution would be to look through the fanboi support that one or two suppliers have deliberately social engineered. Octopus is, in my view, akin to Elon Musk and Tesla, far, far better in terms of hype than reality if something goes wrong.0
