Think I’ve been scammed

I placed an order with Mountain Warehouse, well so I thought. It’s turns out it’s a company called leggingsoutlet. I think I’ve been scammed. I don’t have any details for the company and I forgot to take a screenshot of the order. I contacted the credit card company 2 days later as the payment was pending. I was informed that they couldn’t stop a pending transaction and I would have to wait 30 days to see if it the order turns up.

Is this correct? I did tell them I believe it to be a scam. Feel so stupid 😞

Yes, you cannot claim for non-delivery until there has been a non-delivery, the timeframe for that is usually thirty days as far as card companies are concerned. Wait thirty days, raise a chargeback on the basis of non-receipt of goods, you will get your money back.

Did you place the order on the Mountain Warehouse site?

Or did you just google mountain warehouse leggings and click on the first thing that came up?

    It may be ok....

have you had a confirmation email from legginsoutlet?
  • Not that it's any consolation, I was scammed by a fake Dr Marten's website a few years ago, they can be very convincing! I eventually was refunded by my credit card company but it took a long time and lots of effort.

    A quick google reveals

Important Notice: Alert on Fraudulent Activity

    Dear Visitor,

We urgently need to address a serious issue that may have brought you to our site. A fraudulent network is actively using a name deceptively similar to 'LeggingsOutlet' in their bank statement identifiers. This tactic is intentionally designed to confuse and misdirect victims to us.

Be aware that these fraudulent sites are luring customers with extremely low prices. However, it has been consistently reported that the customers never receive their purchases. We want to emphatically state that LeggingsOutlet has no association with these transactions or websites.

The misuse of a name resembling ours is causing considerable confusion, leading individuals to our company with concerns about transactions we are not involved in.

Immediate Action Recommended: If you suspect that you've been impacted by this fraud, we strongly advise you to immediately report the illegal transaction to your bank or credit card provider and request a chargeback.

We Need Your Help: To effectively tackle this issue and initiate legal action, we require your assistance. If you have been victimized by this scam, please provide us with the following information:

    • The exact website URL where the fraudulent purchase was made.
    • Any advertisements or screenshots that directed you to the fraudulent site.

This information is vital for us to take appropriate action against these fraudulent operations.

Challenges in Addressing the Issue: Our efforts to combat these deceptive practices are ongoing, yet challenging. We are working to remove these fraudulent pages from social media and other platforms, but they often reappear under new names. Your understanding and patience are greatly appreciated as we continue to resolve this complex issue.

Support and Assistance: For any further questions or assistance, please feel free to contact us at support@leggingsoutlet.com.

We deeply regret any inconvenience or confusion caused by these fraudulent activities and thank you for your support in this matter.

Would you like to give us some more details about what happened?

I can understand you might have placed an order with say, Mountain Whorehouse instead of Mountain Warehouse but Leggingsoutlet sounds very different.

However the genuine company Leggingsoutlet https://leggingsoutlet.com/en-gb have a massive warning on their website

From the latter of those two companies I would expect some good outdoor clothing or expedition kit.  From the former, I would expect something entirely different ;)

For the OP, they should be able to confirm whether they placed the order via the genuine "Leggings Outlet" or the deceptively similar company.  If they placed the order to the correct (genuine) company, the order should arrive is due course.  If the order was placed to the deceptively similar company and the order never arrives, then the OP states they paid by CC so chargeback or S75 should be possible (S75 depending upon the value).

Possibly, the fact payment could be made by CC might (hopefully) be an indicator of the genuine site - a scam accepting payment by CC which can be reversed would not be a very effective scam.  One assumes the scammers would not try to follow non-payment claim against the chargeback transaction.

The later could be getting ready to go where no man has gone before, the former is very unlikely.
