I have one hen left now and I think she is indestructible 😂she must be 7 years old and she looks like a spring chicken. She... just stomps around the garden like a feathery tank.
:D:D:D Ha ha, she sounds great!

Thanks SA 😊she is like a little old lady bumbling around. I could see she was thinking of venturing into the house the other day but she wasn't quite brave enough 😊

She is lovely but I can't get my head around how good she looks. Hens can and do live this long but they normally start to look a bit ropey or get heart disease which makes their comb go a blues purple colour but her comb is as bright red as it was at 19 weeks old. It must be all those meal worms she makes me buy 😀

  • I've had a day of stops and starts today. I woke up late after a bad nights sleep then once I got going it wasn't for long. I have done most of the jobs I needed to do though so that's ok. I'm feeling a bit under the weather so maybe I'm coming down with something 🤷‍♀️I also have badly chapped lips which is very irritating. I've got stuff to put on them but they are sore.

Today expense was taking B to the vets. She has been having trouble holding her back legs in position so it looks like she is doing the splits. The vet has said she definitely has arthritis and possibly some sort of Neurological thing going on. He suggested an injection that is meant to be a wonder drug called librela. It's a once a month injection so will require a monthly vet visit to see the nurse at a cost of £84 a month. He told me it was a kinder treatment than the other drugs they use which can damage the kidneys etc. Any way I agree to it and she had her first injection. I then cam home and looked it up and now I'm worried I've made a big mistake. There is a support group for people who's dogs have tried this drug and it's full of horror stories about awful side effects. Such as seizures, loss of the use of their legs and in some cases death.
It's a new drug that was only released in November 2023 and from what I can see the trials were very small, there was one in the USA done over 84 days with 272 dogs and another done in Europe with the same time frame and numbers. People are taking their dogs back to the vet to complain and the vets adamant that it's not the drug causing these problems. I looked at another group and there are several people worth positive outcomes on there but I don't know if I'm going to carry on with it. It seems to cause most problems after the second injection and it also seems like potluck as to whether you dog is ok or not. B is already showing side effects of drinking lots so let's hope that's all she gets 😳
I did call in at the chip shop to buy her a sausage as a treat for being brave 😊

Reading about side effects is scary - I hope B isn't affected but I know you'll keep a close eye on her and she needn't have the drug again if you're unsure. Just an outside chance, but maybe the sausage you treated her too was a bit salty, hence the thirst? Chip shops seem random in how much salt they add.

DH had a bad reaction to some medication which has possibly also been the cause of damage elsewhere - so I know these things happen, but in a way, you feel you have to try things to find out if it alleviates the symptoms.
