  • Tosh 37" with 100hz for £560 at Amazon
Remember its 100hz so watching sports like football will be smoother

  • What is this rubbish people are talking about debate about what is better 1080 or 720.

There is no debate 1080 is far superior the resolution is higher and the picture is more detailed end of story, the only exception to this is you have poor quality set on 1080 and a good quality set on 720 then the 720 set may look better, or it will depend on the source you are using to get the best picture you will need sky HD or Blue Ray or HD DVD or HDMI to DVI Input from pc to get best from the set.

You get what you pay for, I have a Sony 1080p 40" LCD and the picture will blow you away, also you can connected to the pc the image is sharp and clear and as good quality as your monitor.
  • Saw this deal, but now its gone to £899 or so....dammit...any chance of them reducing it again if I ask??
  • Just spoke to Currys on the phone, they said they were aware of the mistake and were refusing to sell it at that price, oh well...better luck next time... :(

I have to say I agree with you. I was looking to buy the Panasonic TH42PX plasma or the full HD TH42PZ. I went to Hughes Electrical in Diss where they had the two sets side by side showing POTC on Sky HD. It was clear from the minute you went into the shop that the full HD was far superior. The difference could clearly be seen from at least 15 feet.
  • please be aware guys , the picture on this tv is very poor,

RUBBISH .. these comments make me mad!

The picture quality is amazing.. Toshiba have one of the best built in digital tuners and to the xbox 360 im getting 1080p .. crystal clear

Ive had this set for over 6 monts (2 other HD tv's before that were awful picture) and this set rocks.. any one who has purchased it.. you got a BARGAIN!

The only rubbish being spouted is eminating from your post.

"There is no debate 1080 is far superior the resolution is higher"

That is not even a statement worth commenting on.

Are we talking interlaced or progressive. Do you even understand the difference? For if you did you could surely of only made a mistake in your posting.

So I ask you, to give you a second bite of the cherry.

What is better, 720PPPPPP or 1080IIIIIIIII?

I trust you realise Sky HD is 1080i so your 1080p Sony will not be performing to it's true potential. At £474 delivered this is surely a great buy for a reasonable performing TV.

All film content on Sky HD is output at 1080p carried in a 1080i stream, which is easily extractable to the original. It's not a problem like it is in the US, because putting 25fps into a 50hz carrier is simple (compared to 24 into 60). Basically you end up with half the picture output one frame, the second half the next, the TV stitches them together, and you end up with exactly the same thing as if it was 1080p25 all along.

Of course, 1080 lines on a 42" is borderline pointless, the set is simply too small to make that worthwhile. To actually get any benefit you need to sit 6-7 feet away, and that's assuming you have 20/20 vision. At 9-10 feet away (the national average), you might as well use a 720p set, as the extra pixels are not possible to discern.

Personally I think 1080p is a waste of time on anything under 50" - even on my 55" 1080p I'm not sure it's worth it. A study done a while back showed resolution was only the third most important factor for image quality, behind colour accuracy and contrast.
